The Sai Stance in Mortal Kombat Deception

Second there were NO combos? C'mon. Being a practioner of the Sai I know that you can come up with insane, very quick combos. There seems to be no limits to this weapon. It was very strong in both offense and Defense. However Li Mei wielded these weapons as if she were a 3 yr old picking up a new toy. Now that Mileena is in the game I hope they have completely revamped this stance to give it the respectable moves it deserves. The sai are very swift and deadly weapons. For godsake let it have at least a 5 or 6 hit combo that ends with either a pop up or knocks the opponent away from you. In DA the only useful move the Sai had was the impale other than that there really was no reason to shift into this stance which disappointed me, being that the sai are my favorite weapon next to the staff (of which I am very proficient in also) Also there are like next to no fighting games except for maybe Last Bronx in which you can fight with Sai. And even in that game Nagi was extremely better than Li Mei she had Lighting quick combos and decent damage. Let Mileena take this to the next level an be extremely deadly when in sai stance. What do you think? Am I alone in being dissapointed by the Sai in DA and want it better in MKD?
About Me
To anyone who cares, I'm not banned. I left of my own accord. This place is dead to me now.

I forget now, but there were a few sai moves I was able to chain with her special moves. But yes, I tend to agree as well. Nowadays I just impale my opponent and pummel them with Li's other styles while they bleed.
Li Mei (if she is indeed in MKD) will likely get another weapon - staff-based, hopefully. And yes, I hope Mileena can wield the sais better.

i was thinking that same thing when i seen Mileena holding her sais in the screen. I really hope she is really quick attacks and combos with them, like spinning them around and stuff like Sonya did with her sticks. Thats how sais should be used. They r the coolest weapon to me, ever since i seen Dare Devil.

Exactly that is perfect example of how sai should be used. It would be perfect if they could make Mileena use them at least similar to the way Elektra did.
| JAX007 Wrote: I agree with this. Li Mei's sai fighting sucked horribly. I seriously hope it's way better in MKD. |
Took the words right out of my Mouth JAX007. I have seen Tom fight with the Sai and let me tell you there is so much more Li Mei should have been able to do. It was a shame.. hopefully Mileena will blow her out of the water.

I agree, though I must say the weapon combat in general was too slow. The whole game was a little slow. Anyway I hope MKD is fast past and small light weapons are much faster than heavier ones.

Exactly! That is how it should be. The bigger, heavier weapons should be slower while the small light ones should be quick striking and more combo potential. Sonya's Kali stick stance was imo perfect. Exactly what it should be. And Tsung's straight sword was excellent as well. I hope they fix the others.

I have to agree with everyone in this thread. The Sai stance sucked so badly in MKDA. I was expecting the combos that Mileena used in past games where she'd punch and kick in between each Sai hit or after a succession of two slashes from the weapons. What did we get? A pathetic attempt of taking Mileenas legacy that's what!
The style was slow, and didn't have a single combo! The hits themselves were weak and the Sais were made to look pathetic in comaprison to what they really are! And that is DEADLY! I too hope Mileena shows Li Mei the way of the Sai! lol And I hope that Li Mei has a different weapon. Maybe they could give her a chopstick or something. She might fight a little better with one of those!
As for overall weapon combat, it all needs speeding up! I agree that the heavier weapons should be slower and the lighter ones fast, however, they must take into account the build and size of the person using them. A big guy with a huge axe will be able to move it pretty fast. A lot faster than a smaller person anyway.
Also, I'd like some longer weapon combos with a mix of punches and kicks in between the weapon hits, just like Kitana, Jade, Mileena, Kabal and Scorpion used to do.
And TomTaz, I'm jealous man! I seriously want to take up training in both the Sai and Staff styles! Your lucky!

Thanks. They are both great weapons to take up. The sai are considerably more complicated to learn but once you get and can do all the flips and twirls and stuff not only is it a deadly weapon to contend with but also is very spectacular to watch in competition.

In the Sai I have been training for a year and a half now. The Staff I learned a long time ago. I still have a lot to learn as far as the sai are concerned but it's coming along nicely.

lol Li Mei and her plastic edged chopsticks. You can just see everyone running away in fear! lol
Anyway, it's cool that you practice with the Sai and Staff. You say you still have a lot to learn in Sai. There must be more hidden elements to it than most fighters show.

Most definitely. My instructer Peter, has shown me some things that are absolutely cool. That's why I was so upset about the way they were portrayed in the game. They are a much better weapon than that. But hopefully Li Mie was just a dolt and Mileena will take her ass to school!!

Sweet! Whatever he has shown you should go into the game!
And you put 'hopefully' when referring to Mileena putting Li Mei to shame! It's not hope man, it WILL happen! lol When it comes to the Sai, the girl cannot be faulted!

*Slaps head* Doh! What was I thinking.

lol Mileena will forgive you in time!
She may just kick your ass first - a personal test!
Anyway, with Mileena having her Sais back I think the overall style will be more in depth. they will have to have her as she was before, so we should see more than what Li Mei offered.

Long as she doesn't lift that veil, we're cool! LOL
Sai fighting is mostly about reversals and guarding anyway. They're held with the fingers in-between the blades, and there are actually very few stabbing moves (not to say that stabs, slashes, and sai throws are NOT used, just the defensive moves are more prominent)

That is very true. Still There could have been combos formed easily and the actual strike could have been better. Just because the sai are designed to be an awesome defensive tool, doesn't mean that they don't have any power offensively as well.

No, they were designed as farming tools
But, well, yeah, I see your point. If you had two very sharp weapons, and you were being attacked by some bloodthirsty fool, would you merely be defensive with them? o_o Hell no! You'd slash 'em up good!
