using big (original) controller screwing me over?

for some reason i cannot choose alt. costumes
i am one of the few people out of all my friends who prefers the original, big controllers. however i think this is the reason i cant choose alts though. if you notice when you go to Options and Controls, the picture always displays the small controller.
anyone else with a big controller notice this?

ok i seem to be able to do it for practcie mode so i gues sit will work for arcade mode, i figured out my problem
however for chess mode its not working, and ivebeen playing chess a lot
