Was Mavado hated primarily for killing Kabal?

I know it definitely caused a stir back then that Mavado killed Kabal and took his hookswords. Does that remain the primary reason Mavado is unpopular?

Fans are quick to say death does not matter in MK, but it seems Kabal's death mattered enough for plenty of them to still hate Mavado's guts even though Kabal could be resurrected (which is exactly what happened).

I know there were also a few other reasons for his unpopularity, like being rather difficult to play as (which was part of his appeal to me) and NRS themselves hating him, but I still wonder if murdering Kabal wasn't the primary offence, even after all this time.

Kabal's death didn't bother me one bit. I wasn't a fan of him at all during that time.

I think, for me at least, Mavado fell short on his gameplay. He literally had NOTHING to offer. Those rope moves were whack and his design wasn't spectacular either. He had no real spark or "flare".

As a fan of Kabal, I cant say it sure as hell didn't help. I honestly disliked him for more than that though, I hated his design, and I hated his bungie cord things, and he killed a character that's actually cool, so yeah f*** that guy lol

I was mad when I found out Mavado killed Kabal, but I put the blame on Boon/Vogel entirely. I'm actually alright Mavado. Not my favorite character from that era, but I always found him passable.

I had no problem with him offing Kabal, as Kabal was old and tired but people are upset because a 3D guy killed a Trilogy character. Oh well, at least Mavado got SOMETHING to do in the comic before he bought the farm.

His Fatality in DA, however, was just idiotic.

Two words:

RED DRAGON.

I think people generally dislike Red and Black dragon characters.

Can people get over this Trilogy vs Post-Trilogy crap? Ermac is the only MK3 character returning for MKX that we know of, so far. Even the cyborgs are looking more and more unlikely. Contrary to popular belief, MK3 characters, including the popular ones, are not as favored as those from the first two games. Guess people were fooled by two compilation games featuring all or most of the MK3 cast, particularly one dedicated to the first three games.

Like someone else already, BACK THEN, Kabal hadn't even returned yet. Hell, I don't believe people even had this "MK3 vs Post-MK3" mindset.

So sure, Kabal must have been as stale as Scorpion and Jax, because of the few appearances he made in non-compilation games Post-MK3, which were MKD, and one very small and pathetic cameo in MK:SM where he had to be rescued.

Most of the MK3 cast is as unlikely to return in a new non-compilation game as most Post-MK3 characters.

Rant over. Back to topic, if possible. I liked Mavado's fatality, and think spiky shoes could be part of his gameplay.
