Weapons......what are they good for?

Should some of the returning characters have long range weapons?Smoke could have a segmented sword like Ivy from SC2.Noob Saibot could have a shadow chain.I personally think that weapons with different ranges could add some variety.We could have some characters weilding close range weapons others could have long reaching ones. Or they can have different range weapons in the enviroment. I think that by doing this the MK team could polish and imbelish the weapon aspect, not keep it as an extra. I just hope they don't get too crazy and start putting shotguns and laser canons as areana weapons. Also it would be nice to either by new weapon skins or upgrades for the character in the Krypt.(Yes I know this sound 90 percent like Soul Calibur.) But that's what made the game great. And by expanding on that MK can stand toe to toe with SC or beat it.

I'm hoping that they do add some different range weapons. It would make the combat more tense. In DA every body had close range weapons, so all you did was stay close and beat on the guy. With long range weapons you would have to choose, "Do I risk going in with a short-range weapon like a nunchaucku a la Maxi or do I stay safe and make him come in and close the distance." I think that would be a great mechaninc to have.

These ideas are awsome and would be perfect if implemented correctly. They could make the weapon aspect so much better. Especially that thing you said about the different skins.

Thanks dude I hope some of the other people on this site feel the same way.
No Prob. For the record I think the odds of Sindel getting a whip for a weapon are pretty good. Because people have been saying it since before any info on MKDec was released. And the Midway people do read this forums, well I think so anyway. So if she get's a ranged weapon it's quite possible that other long ranged weapons will be implemented. I mean how many differnt swords can you have right? If you look at it from this point of view: They are introducing 8 new characters In my opinion they would have to start dipping into some ranged weapons if they want to keep Weapon styles different and non-repetative. So While I'm not sure about the weapons skin thing being in, I think you can pretty much count on some ranged weapons.

What if the cyborgs or spectral ninjas have hybrid weapons? Cyrax's pulse blade could turn extend into a staff or Ermac's whatever(i think it's a battle axe) could be thrown like a boomerang? I'm hoping Smoke would have a twin pulse blade that could be modified into a double chain whip since it's a plasma weapon. This could be done by giving some of the "phantom weapons" a morphing power, just like some of the lighter weapons could impale in DA.

You're ideas sound cool. And yeah, i would like ranged weapons and the likes of them in Deception. I mean, in DA, there were 676 koffins, and some of them just had some really boriiiiing shit in them. They could put weapon skins and such there instead. And i would like someone to weild a double bladed sword, just like Darth Maul.(who btw was portrayed by Ray Park, who did the stunt double and fight scenes for Rayden in MK:A...)

Great ideas man! Ranged weapons are definitely needed. All except the staff in MKDA were close range mainly. A mix of both ranges and maybe some mid range weapons too would add more depth to the fighting. As you said, it made Sc2 great and MK would be better for it too.

It would be nice if the weapons had some special effects also. Kenshi's katana is the epitome of japaness swords. It is deadly and precies, couldn't be just a little more damaging. Or Cyrax's pulse blade. It is pure energy, at least show me an after shock of electricity on the opponent when they get shocked. Also, what if the weapons could increase the fighter's power. Jax had steel tonfas, if he did a ground pound with those he could send more then a shock wave, he would send a ground wave at the opponent. Sub-Zero's kori blade, it's pure ice couldn't it also freeze the guy from the inside with some kind of stab? I'm not saying that the weapons give the fighters new powers but they should at least magnify some of them.

Erm.. I thought characters had short ranged weapons because they have projectiles for the long distance aspect.
Maybe if it was ballanced so characters with projectile moves had short ranged weapons and characters with short range special moves would have long range weapons.
I also like the earning extra weapon points in the krypt idea. Although I think it would be better as total character experiance points which allow the character to move slightly faster, deal 0.01% more damage per hit or take 0.01% less damage per hit (so it's not a huge advantage). It would also be cool if it allowed a slightly longer window of oportunity to enter the fatality button combo or other moves.
