MK lost respect a long time ago for not being up to par with games like Virtua Fighter and Tekken. Deadly Alliance helped build it up, but it still lags. Basically, MK uses fluff and gimmicks to try and breakthrough, but that's really not enough. There are gameplay topics abound to elaborate that though.
Very true; despite what a lot of you think about Soul Calibur's storyline, the gameplay itself is eons beyond Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance. The only thing Mortal Kombat has respect for is for being a proven money maker; it's almost a franchise more than a video game now. Characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, and Raiden are a part of our culture now. I find myself exploring other fighting games to get a deeper game, while Mortal Kombat remains vital only for the sleek character designs and the fatalities. Beyond the pageantry, Mortal Kombat lacks substance.

true, MK lost it's respectability when it tried to become a tetris playing, chess playing, 3D version of Midway arcade treasures.
Deception and all other MK games are fighting games, spending time on other things takes time away to improve the main game itself.

The gameplay is fine just cause its not like Tekken or SC or VF dosen't mean the fighting engine is bad just different. I agree that SC2's storyline sucks and the gameplay is far superior but the fact is MK has it all a fighting engine that works, works well if you ask me. An amazing line up of characters are sey for MK:D. The story lines in MK:D are going to be awesome. Also why crack on the mini-games i like the idea of Chess Kombat while the puzzle fighter i'm not so sure of give it a chance before you start bashing it. You all talk as if you've played this game and then gone and played Tekken, VF, and SC to make comparisions which you haven't. If you play the game and still want to bitch and complain about the gameplay (which is great imo what other game gives you 3 fighting styles?) then feel free but quit bitching about how gameplay dosen't compare to other games. MK:DA is not MK:D stop comparing MK:D to other games pretending its MK:DA MK:D will go far beyond what MK:DA did.
to me the ultimate fighting game would be a Mortal Kombat, with the three styles, the fatalities, the great characters and such, but also with the replayability of Soul Calibur 2. Hopefully, MKD is that.

DA may not be Deception but if there were so many changes to the gameplay Boon + co would be boasting about it, but he's been boasting about these new modes giving the impression that more time has been spent on them so they haven't been changed that much.
If your look through any gameplay thread you will find countless examples of gameplay that makes a good fighter that MK lacks that the others do have, no-one is saying MK should be like the others it's just using examples of gameplay from those games.
The 3 style system isn't that good, if you add the amount of moves/combos for 1 character it would only just add up the amount of moves a character has in another game, besides the whole different style thing has been done before, have you never played as hwoarang in the tekken series before? even if his different styles aren't given flashy names, he has more moves/combos that are just as good if not better that MK. !!!!!!EDIT!!!!!! Lei Wulong also does many different styles, tiger, snake, crane etc. and he's been able to do them since Tekken 3 as well as Hwoarang. MK's tenstrings need style branching to have the same amount of moves in the tenstrings of games that don't use different styles. Its not a big deal.

MK is cool but I have too admit now. I was looking at all the gameplay movies for;doa3,sc,tekken and their gameplay is so fast plus you have body slamming and fast slow motions.Mk has just gotten into 3d so give it a chance mortal kombat will be the best 3d game in years too come, but they shouldn't not of made puzzle kombat serious I don't see the sence in that, but chess it contains actual fighting and hope they didn't drop test your might and sight because those mini games help you be a better player.Test your sight help you too focus on your fighting more and test your might help you to pull off combos faster.
but mortal kombat have a story that just connects us to it,even making us think these characters are real people.
