Because there are no threads about the music and sound effects of MKD (at least I haven’t seen any) so I decided to make my own. I think the music and sound effect are one of the most important things because it creates the whole atmosphere and feeling towards reality.

When I first watched the latest official trailer (where the Dragon King is introduced) the first thing that has drawn my attention was the music. Now that’s music worthy for Mortal Kombat its very dark and mysterious just like back in the days of MK1 and 2. Another great example of this is when you open its official site. Music like this is one of the things that was missing from MKDA. I also love the revamped soundtracks for the classic MK stages.

The sound effect I’ve seen so far turning out to be great too. Especially the environment sounds a great example of this is also in the latest official trailer when Ashrah kicks Hotaru off that balcony in the prison stage. The sounds of that falling piece of fence are great and give you the feeling that you are really fighting inside that arena IMO.

Another great thing I’ve noticed is that there are a lot more different character voices for the fighters (hopefully one different voice for each). And the best thing of all is the death screams of the characters. In Baraka’s bio video what I loved about his fatality was mileena’s scream end the sudden stop of her scream when hear head was ripped off. You can almost feel her pain grin

Now what do you think of the music and sound effects and/or what would you have done different?

I agree with you, spike dude!

Music and sound effects are extremely important in fighting games! I also loved the background sound on the MKD official site and I digged the metal fence sound a lot! wink

What is really missing now is the characters having their own voices! (Though Mileena should have the voice that she has now!! What a PAINFUL scream in Baraka's bio...)

Well, I have to say, I agree and disagre with separate points in this. THe nusic, I absolutely agree. It's much better than MK: DA. I especially like How on the Portal, it's the same music as it was back in the day. However, with voices, there are a few problems. Yes, they are all good, but they definately aren't all new and I'm positive that everyone won't have their own voice. Millena and Sindel screamed the same way and since some voices were carried over, I'll bet they will be used for more than one person as well. Also, I'm not sure if Millena stops screaming so much as the screen cuts off right after he rips her torso off.

I think the voices, and the music sound great. A vast improvement over MKDA.

Thanks. It does seem that there are more different voices then there were in MKDA but I agree with you both. I want to see different voices for all the characters. It gets pretty anoing if some of them share the same voice.

I’m not entirely sure if Mileena stops screaming either but I’ve played that last part of that video a couple of times and right after she stops screaming you can hear Baraka’s blades retreat (or Mileena’s head pop off) for a split second before the screen cuts off. But it may be to fast to tell fore sure I hope she does stop though it makes it more realistic.

All in all I would say that I am not entirely satisfied with the sound effects but I am satisfied, hell, more than satisfied with the music. The music definetely has that "old school" MK feel back to it... it's like "Oriental Hell" hahahaha.... I definetely was a big fan of the MK2 music and not so much anything after that because the MK music seemed to for a while become very electronic/technoish instead of dark, slow, uninviting, very very evil........ I love it

About the music I totally agree with you here. The music from MK2 was the best yet and I’m glad that they put this Oriental touch in the music again. That’s one of the things that makes MK great and lets me remember the old days of MK again. The sound effect are an improvement so far IMO.

Hey,what is Baraka's in game voice like? Like when he gets hit. Is it some sort of hiss or is it just a normal male voice?

I agree. Music and sound effects are very important in a game. The music and sounds are the 2 most important factors that make you live the game. As if you were there.

So far, the sound effects are the best. I love the screams, they finally heard my petition on “Make us feel the pain”.

Music so far looks good, nothing as great as Mk3 or Mk1-mk2 but it looks good.

Excellent thread spike. grin

Thanks queve. Those screams are excellent and so are the fatalities BTW. They are much improved too.

But I love the music so far. I personally did not like the music in MK3 that much and all the games after MK3 where not that special either IMO. I loved the music of MK 1 en 2 though; they were the best yet.

REALLY? Mk3 IMO had the best mk music ever!

I loved it the best. Mk1 next, and finally Mk2.

Mk4 and MKDA had bad music.

The music of MK3 isn’t bad; actually it is perfect for MK3. But I like it if the music has that oriental touch in it like MK 1 and 2. MK2 has the best music IMO. But MK3 is completely different from MK 1 and 2. MK2 takes place in Outworld while MK3 is takes place in our own streets and with that change the music must change too.

Yeah, I especially liked the music from MK2 (The Pit 2 and Wasteland)and I liked some of the music in MK 1.

Havent heared much of the music from MK:D but from what I have heared, I think it sounds really good.

It might seem a bit daft, but I kind of like the music that plays on the offal website (www.mkdeception.com). Although it is very basic (it repeats itself often), it has a nice sinister feel to it, complimenting the game very well.

Just my 2 pence worth.

Much better than MK:DA. The announcers voice is perfect. It's very very rough and aggressive. The music from the last trailer blew me away.It was a great mix to with the mysterious music and the drum like noises everytime we saw the DK (like his foot steps and showing how intimidating he is) then his roar. The anticipation grows ever stronger. MK2 and MK3 had the best music. If you don't have them. Crack MK:DA out and watch the history of MK. Listen to the music when MK2 and MK3 come on.

Nice description of that trailer music wink... I agree on the announcer’s voice; like you say it’s really dark and aggressive. Will the Dragon King be the announcer this time... is that his voice? I do hope the Dragon King will have some taunts during fight like Shao Kahn did. I loved that.

I don’t know about the music of MKM I’ve never really played that game. I did play it once though but I can’t remember anything of the music.

Most think he will be the announcer, I think thats his voice. I honestly think you could scare people just by getting them to hear this voice. It'd be cool if he had some taunts but I think he'll have mainly roars.

Well I do know that I didn’t want to hear a voice like that when I was a kid so I guess that’s a positive on scaring people lol. If it really is the Dragon King we’ll find out soon enough with only one month to go before release well; two months for us sad
