It's a Japanese word, pronounced Hari Kiri...It's essentially a dishonorable suicide.

a hari kari is an honorable suicide.. not dishonorable.. basically its seppaku (suicide)

a hari kiri was a form of honorable suicide where a samurai would stick his short katana in his stomach and move it to the right, cutting his spinal cord in half, it was considered dishonorable to let your opponent kill you. but the samurai put this plant in thier helmet so that if they got thier heads cut off it would smell sweet

Well it wasn't really dishonorable to be killed in kombat by your enemy, but it was dishonorable to be taken into enemy hands, ie. prisioner.. and to add to your argument the samurai really did prefer to die by their own blade rather than an opponents.

The blade your refuring to is a wakizashi, which is basically a small sword. Samurai usally wore these with a larger blade, the combo was called daisho I think... It's what scorpion has strapped to his back from MKDA.

Shinjuu is a double love suicide.
