Who would YOU choose as MK Grand Champion??

According to the always flimsy storyline of Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang died in MKDA, therefore the title of Grand Champion is now vacant. (Even though Shang killed him, it can hardly be described as a title fight - and Tsung probably isn't in MK:D) So who would you choose as the victor of MKDA, and then have them defend the title of champ in MK:D?
I would choose Kung Lao - but right now he isnt even confirmed.
-Or is the tournament format gone from the storyline and therefore there are no more "Grand Champions".

subzero is the grand master of the lin kuei so i guess he could be grand champion (also in mkda raiden referred to him as one of the main protectors of earth if that means anything)
About Me
The alliance of the two ninjas- Scorpion, Sub-zero

Scorpion should be MK Grand Champion. He has proved that he is worthy enough to be MK Grand Champion, but never got a chance to enter because of the death of his famliy and the Deadily Aliance. So Scorpion should be the MK Grand Master

Scorpion, he has earned it. He usually doesn't fight for anyone other than himself though
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER be champions of the game:
NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kung Lao:
Why? Simple, he is TOO much like Liu Kang already, and his character will be totally ruined if he was the next champion! Its simply too predictable! He is from the Order of Light, descendent of the original Kung Lao, he even has the same name, he is related to Liu Kang, and their names are also alike.
Its just boring. He will become another Liu Kang, and eventually, he will be hated by many.
Sub-Zero:
He is cool the way he is. Being the Champion and Grandmaster of his clan is cool, but make him win the tournament is wrong. Even though I rather see him win then Kung Lao, I think Sub-Zero has to stay in those limits.
Scorpion:
Worse then Kung Lao. The ninja specter is cool, I agree, but cool and important enough to win the tournament?...NO! He has not (so far) done anything close to amazing or great to suddenly become grand champion of mortal kombat. His mission is vengeance, he is neutral, we dont need him to win, terrible idea.
MY personal characters:
A FEMALE! Yes, I dont care who, but I really want to see a FEMALE win Mortal Kombat!!! First, it would be a fresh and awesome change to the typical male winner and champion. Best options:
Sonya:
Yes, she is my fave, but not cause of that. She has been around just as much as Liu Kang and more then other original Mk characters. She has evolved to become one of the most powerful characters of the game and a trademark to the franchise.
She even adopted Lius fly kick and an amazing bicycle kick in a better way. After Liu Kang, she is the most important earth warrior. She has the force, strength, and looks to become champion.
Kitana:
Just like Sonya she is a trademark in the universe of Mortal Kombat. She has ruled Outworld and proven to be one of the Top forces against any evil menace. Kitana has the skill and looks to become champion.
NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the Grand Champion had to be mortal born then Sonya. I do admit in weak moment I would say Kenshi, but...has much as I admire his fighting styles as swordmanship I feel Sonya is still the best choice. She was born a normal human and look to how much she has done. Liu Kang, Kung Lao were trained from childhood for Mortal Kombat but Sonya is just as good if not better. (If she could only get her priorities straight. Save the world first and then go after the Black/Red Dragon.)
If the champion could be an immortal who gave up his immortality then Raiden. Hey, he's been fighting for Earthrealm for centuries already.

I'm with you. She has the potential to be the Grand Champion, evidently Kung Lao demonstrated that it in MKDA can be, but would be to follow the history of always (and in addition, Kung Lao is of a character pacifico than Liu Kang). Kenshi also it could be a good option, but his character of anti-heroe I believe that it reserves other goals to him.

Do you say that to put a huge twist in the story and make her an underdog.. or were you just saying that to be humorous?
My vote goes to Sub Zero.

Well I Think That Johny Cage Is The Grand Champion, Because His Ending Was The Only Ending To Straight Up Come Out And Say That He Won The Tournament, To Tell You The Truth, I Am Not A Big Fan Of His, Id Rather See Scorpion Be The Winner

Mortal Kombat no longer exists as a tournament; thus, it nolonger has, nor needs, a Grand Champion.
Though it was a good idea at the time, the Mortal Kombat tournament was so full of loopholes, that Kahn was eventually able to destroy it all together. Mortal Kombat now exists only as a war between realms; no one person can win a war alone, so no one person can be Champion.
If you must have one though, it would have to be Kabal. His ending comes out and says that he is the next chosen one, and his is the only to do that. The last Champion, Lui Kang, dies and Kabal shows up; it can't be a coincidence.

I agree with sweet LadyRayden on this! Also with lg1982.
Kung lao, Scorpion and Sub-zero are definitely the ones that should never win, its too boring and too predictable.
We need new faces. A new change. A female.

There hasn't been any tournaments since MKII. MK3 was Kahn's invasion of Earth, MK4 was Shinnok's invasion, and MKDA was about Shang Tsung and Quan Chi's threat to the realms. Therefore, there has been no title to win. Liu Kang was killed (not beaten) outside of the Mortal Kombat tournament. I don't know how the Elder Gods handle murdered Champion cases (this is probably the first), but no one claimed Liu Kang's title, so it's still his as far as I know. If he came back to life, the title would still be his to defend.
To answer your question though, if I were creating the storyline for the game, Liu Kang would remain champion unless I had the storyline based in the future with the next generation of kombatants and felt Liu Kang should lose, which I still highly doubt I'd have happen. I couldn't leave out Liu Kang no more than Ed Boon can leave out his favorate character, Scorpion. Scorpion, I'm sure, will be in every game from now on due to him being Ed's main man. It'd be cool to see the next generation of MK fighters though, now that I think about it. Liu Kang would still look the same, since his champion title makes him ageless, but all his Earthrealm friends would be old. However, if I were writing the story, I would expand on Liu Kang's character so people would quit complaining about him being the same in every game, which I could say for many characters in the series *coughscorpioncough*.
But if by some wavering or twisting of the rules, Liu Kang is challenged for his title outside the tournament and loses, than that title I would have Kung Lao gain back from whoever took it. It looks like Sub-Zero is getting a lot of attention storywise now, but Kung Lao just seems like the most appropriate replacement choice. Scorpion, I say NO! I don't say that because I have something against him, but like someone else said, he just wouldn't fit the role. He hasn't done anything of great importance in the primary storyline of Mortal Kombat. His plot has always revolved around himself, vengence, and Sub-Zero. And he doesn't seem interested in Sub-Zero anymore, once he found out Quan Chi was the guy he should really be after, and Quan Chi hasn't been confirmed for MKD as of yet. So I say Scorpion would not be a good idea.
As far as main hero goes, I also I say no to Johnny Cage, Sonya, and Kitana. They are great in their current roles, but not main hero material. Johnny Cage is comic relief buddy type, Sonya is the tough female with the attitude, and Kitana is Princess of Edenia and female lead for Liu Kang. Plus, the shaolin temples have always played a major part in the Mortal Kombat tournaments, so having a movie star, military special forces agent, or Edenian Princess take the spotlight would just alter the focus too much.
Liu Kang was always right for the hero & champion role, and though he is absent for the most part in what is presently going on, it's not to say he won't return, nor does it mean he's not the hero anymore. Maybe they are waiting for the right moment to truely bring him back, when the hero & champion of Earthrealm is needed the most. Meanwhile, some other character, currently looks like Sub-Zero, will get some more focus. Right now, many things are happening after the Deadly Alliance shook things up. It's now a matter of seeing where things will go due to their actions.
Even if Liu Kang has not been chosen for the hero role now or in the future, it's good to see that his spirit lives on.

I'm sure the actual tournament of Mortal Kombat still exists, it's just so many years in between that we may not see the next official tournament until something like Mortal Kombat 25! lol But yeah... MK3 Kahn broke the rules by having Sindel, the queen he claimed after taking over Edenia, resurrected on Earth. Then, Shinnok breaks free from Netherealm with Quan Chi's aid, and the power of the amulet, then the two most powerful known sorcerers jump portals and kill off the most powerful figures in Earth and Outworld, while taking control of the Dragon King's army. So the tournament deal has been evaded ever since MKII. And I'm sure once the Dragon King enters the scene, the tournament will be of no effect here either.

Actually, she did in:
Mk4 and MKDA.
In Mk4 her main goal was Jarek, but after learning of the evil spread by Quan Chi and Shinnok she decided to join forces with her enemy and worry about earth more then anything else.
In MKDA she had nothing to do or even knew about mavado, Red dragon or Kano. Her main goal was earth.
In Mk1 her main goal was her friends. She fought to save her captured team.
In Mk3 she fought I beilive to kill Kano and save earth.
Anyway, its clear that in Mk4 and MKDA her main goals were to save earth and in Mk1 her friends.

I agree 100% with this list. Definitely mortal kombat needs a new unpredictable champion, and it would be awesome if its a female.
I must also say as champions:
Kenshi and Johnny Cage.

I agree, but you got to admit...Sonya can be stubborn sometimes in regards to the Black/Red Dragon
