it seems only natural that some will duplicate as more characters are added.
Perhaps they should try to add in some more "Americanized" styles, such as Freestyle Wrestling, Collegiate Wrestling, Greco-Roman Westling, Boxing, Street Fighting, and Pro Wrestling.
Think of all the cool grappling moves. Double Legs, High Crotches, Fireman Carries, Headlock Throws, Jack Wizard Throws, Mike Tyson ear bites, Pile Drivers, Power Bombs, Stone Cold Stunners, and Maybe even The POUUUUUUUUUUNCE!!!
Its not that farfetched, in MK4 some characters had Powerbombs, and in Tekken King has killer wrestling moves. Even in MKDA Hsu Hao had the wrestling style, juts that it wasn't true to anything. Of course I would so Mark Out if Scorpion got the Pro Wrestling style and gave Reptile (or somebody else who is in the game) The POUUUUUUUUUNCE!!!
Just my two centz. :)

I dont like those "American" styles at all. They dont fit Mk IMO.
Welcome to MKO BTW! I hope you enjoy your stay!

think about strange styles that would be cool

Greco-Roman Westling, boxing, and wrestling came to america from from europe.American styles would be either Native American martial arts which nightwolf should have (if they did the research),or stuff like WWF type over the top wrestling.Streetfighting is a worldwide thing.

So, uh, will Reptile at least have The POUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCE!!! in this game???

They already have duplicate styles. Both Tanya and Jade's styles are Sun Bin.

You'll probably find that isn't the case. When we first saw MK:DA clips some characters had other peoples styles, but by the time it was out everybody had their own 2. I think they just screw around giving the styles to different characters untill they find who suits what best. I could be wrong, though
Anyways, I agree that wrestling wouldn't suit very well. It isn't really an effective fightging style (grapples are easy to escape if you know how), atleast not when versing ninja's, shaolin monks and what not. Wrestling is fine if you're fighting an idiot, but not when fighting somebody who knows how to fight properly (ie: the MK characters, they're meant to be the best of all the realms).
Anyways, there are lots of arts I'd like to see in MK. First of all, I want to see traditional Karate done properly. What Cage had in MK:DA was not authentic at all, coming from somebody who has done non traditional and traditional styles of Karate for a good 17 years. Jin in Tekken 4 is probably the closest I've seen to authentic, down to the stances he uses while striking and all those little details (whoever did the mocap was really good at it).
Besides that little bitch, I'd like to see...
Capoeira - Even though it would make no sense to have a shadow ninja thing doing a Brazilian MA disguised as a dance, how good would Noob suit this style? Eddy/Christie from Tekken use it, incase some people don't know what it is. It would look better than Monkey I'm sure...
BJJ - Jiu Jitsu with a focus on striking too, just a good general MA that would work well.
Muay Thai - This wasn't too bad when Jax used it, although it's really hard to screw up such a basic style so they should've done it well. Still though, more focus on the grappling knees/elbows would've been nice, so would a few shin/inside thigh Muay Thai roundhouses for stun moves (knock their balance off for a moment), etc...
Tae Kwon Do - I seem to be mentioning Tekken alot, but oh well, it has great MA in it. Compare Hwoarang to Sonya, a huge difference in class and what not there. I'm hoping they did some work to the TKD in MK:D, it was pretty average in MK:DA.
Too much typing... I'm done.

Man, street fighting isnt even an official style, and who said it would be American in origin if it was. You cant label street fighting to any origin. Next thing you'll be telling me is that you came u up with Rock and Roll

Boxing or Kick-Boxing any thing in between those two. But wrestling? In the history of all fighting games I hated the characters that wrestled. I thought it was so stupid, but to each his own. I love the boxer in Tekken 4, he just uses his hands and I think that's great. It's exactly like how a boxer would punch and everything, props to Tekken for that.

Yeah, that was really well done. The only difference between him and real boxer is he has brilliant reflexes and his ducking/weaving gets him out of the way of strikes. Boxers in real life are usually sloppy as hell, they just stand there getting punched and every so often dodge something (usually by accident, they duck and weave a bit and 1 punch misses by chance, all the other ones land though).

Since I don't want this going off topic, check your notes for my answer to that. I'll say it up front, none of that note is flaming you, just explaining my point of view.

Actually i'm quite interested to hear your point of veiw on the matter Forevergrey, if you have any spare time perhaps you could swing by the martial arts thread again? I'm sure it would make some nice discussion (the poor threads almost dead
