This was a big budget movie $175 million to be exact. The film was about Samurais and was about 'honour this honour that'. I didn't like it. In the end, the Samurais dress up like ninjas, which was ok I guess. The film was about a love triangle lol. Although the 47 Ronin knew they were gonna die for their revenge plot, they managed to avenge their 'Lord', and was given a Samurais death. However one of the Ronin was spared to live so their bloodline isn't lost. Their story is remembered in Japan as a great one. I just think MK with a budget like this would go a very long way. Although MK needs to work on it's love stories lol.

I don't know when I'll get around to actually watching it, but I think I'm as curious about the film itself as I am finding out what people might not have liked about it. I suspect Keanu Reeves in a martial arts fantasy epic might have gone down a lot better a decade ago. I can't help but wonder if that was enough to kill it on first impression.
Some of us had the fortune of talking to Tagawa while he was filming and he acknowledged some cynicism, but I think that was more a nod to the general cringe of American versions of foreign stories. I'm not sure the US box office is quite so discerning where that issue is concerned.
It's easy to look at these thematically and visually similar movies and imagine what Mortal Kombat could do with the same budget. Of course, I think we should be conditioned enough to know, those similarities - however relevant to MK - might not even be intact if it was an MK movie. Hooray for Hollywood.

I'm honestly kinda surprised that anyone thought sinking 175 million in to a martial arts movie was a good idea. In box office history, only a handful of martial arts flicks have made that much. Hell, the first MK movie almost cracks the top ten all time and that movie didn't even make 100 million.
I'm still curious about it (I skipped the OP spoilers), so I'll probably watch on netflix or redbox. Looked like a fun movie where the fighting, the atmosphere etc are more attention grabbing than any intricate plot or moving story or anything like that.

I really wanted to see this when it came out, I actually really like Keanu Reeves...but it was pulled from the local theaters a lot quicker than I expected it to be, so I never got the chance to get around to it.

I'll be picking it up on Blu-ray tomorrow. I really wanted to see this. I rarely go see movies at the theater any more with the exception being basically comic book movies (mostly marvel) and movies based only 80s cartoons like Transformers.

The trailer really gets you excited. But it fails in the end. The film is about a love triangle, which I think MK needs more of (Love themes).

I'd agree with that. It doesn't need to be all love triangles by any means, but I'd love to see MK explore more motivations and plotlines and do so with a more grown up sensibility. The kids that loved MK1 and MK2 back in the early 90's are grown up now and have read and seen things with great stories and played games with intricate plotlines and compelling characters moving in complex worlds.
I don't expect MK to be Game of Thrones, but some layers to characters, some new motivations, and interactions that go beyond what's typically expected would be a huge boost.
