For a while now, I've been having problems with adware and spyware on my computer. (For those who don't know, ad/spyware are programs attached to downloaded movies, music, etc., and are responsible for pop-up ads.)
The problem suddenly got really bad a couple daysago after a porno binge; problems include severe slowdown, a ridiculous amount of pop-ups, internet links being replaced by bullshit porn links, excessive error messages, and non-responsiveness.
I downloaded Spykiller, which scans the computer for spyware for free, and I have a shitload of it; but it says I need to order something for Spykiller to get rid of it. Does anybody know how to get rid of spyware and adware without having to pay for anything?

Try ad-aware:

Or Spybot Search and Destroy:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
I use both and they both work great. And on top of that they truly are free and they do the job.

I would download both as sometimes one detects something that the other misses, also AD-Aware updates more than spybot, but spybot has more advanced features such as removing internet activity traces etc.

I downloaded both programs, but they didn't seem to do much good. There's one program that Spybot can never seem to fix; it says restarting the computer might fix it, but I've done that again and again, and it still won't work. I keep running both programs repeatedly, but new files keep coming up, no matter how many times I delete them. Any suggestions?
go to www.download.com and in the search type in "spyware" and in the list look for "spy-sweeper", spy sweeper is pretty good I have it, it protects your homepage and will wipe out most viruses, its free to try for a while or you can buy it for $30.00. also for adaware, in the same search type in "adaware" and look for "ad-aware 6.0 build 181", its really good!! it finds any type of adaware, its completely free!! I have both of these because i've had a problem where my homepage kept changing to about:blank, it was horrible!! and those two things really helped. also you might have trojan horses. at download.com, type in "trojan horses" and look for "trojan guarder golden version 5.0" (this really helped me) its free to try $50.00 to buy but just download it and scan and will just destroy all trojans and trojan horses. and now for last www.mcafee.com (I bought it, its the best!!) it trackes all viruses and destroys them quickly as possible.
---well thats it I hope I was of some help..

Instead of doing the above, try this: gain knowledgte on software; buy a book "Software for dummies", or something.
I'm sick and tired of idiots who've been infested with adware and whine about it.
It's your own damn fault to begin with.
I've been using Windows for 7 years now, and not once did I have adware for more than an hour, ever.
I even removed the adware from Kazaa, to name just one program.
And that's not just because I'm computer-technical, it's because it's that easy, if only you LEARN the slightest about software.
Jeez, it's not even that fucking hard, either.
Tips * Learn about the Windows registry!
* Learn to say "no" by pressing the ESC button, instead of pessing "cancel" (popups in Javascript VBScript can do stuff with both buttons, not just the "OK" button!).
* Learn the least little about software, before installing it, and when you do have the adware with it, remove it by deleting the actual files on your harddrive (check your temp folders, or Program Files, or your Common Files, or the Application data folder!)
You said it came with music and movies, that is a false statement.
Data cannot be attached and ran via music or movies (granted it can be used in exploits for the SOFTWARE, but that's a very rare occasion, and does not contain adware/spyware, but virusses/worms/trojan servers/haoxes.).
Also, don't install adware/spyware-remove programs, as most are adware/spyware themselves!

Not possible.
It's there without your knownledge because it either used an exploit for your browser, or came with some software package.
In both cases, Gator is the easier to remove from your computer.
Also, I forgot this tip:
Learn about the way Windows starts up.
Edit: I withdraw that statement, halfly.
It could have been installed via a java-script, but software such as Gator cannot do that due to legal matters.
Other software won't do it either, though, it's not commenly known to happen.
