Ok the fan on my power supply went a few weeks ago and started crashing periodically from over heating. I figured how hard could it be to replace the power supply so I order one and tryed to put in in last night. The problem was the connector to motherboard is too short, as well as the power supply box was to small and too wide to put it in my PC, I didn't relize this until after i completely pulled the old one out, so I just put the old one back in no biggie.

I'm pretty sure I connected everything right, and everything seems to be working right the only problem I'm having now though is there isn't any sound comming from my PC. I checked all the speaker wires and the sysmtem properties for the audio divices which says there working fine. Does anyone who has built a PC or replaced their power supply know if I might have dones anything wrong? maybe connected something wrong when I put the power supply back? Or maybe even wacked something inside on the motherboard? I'm pretty sure I didn't wack anything on the mb but but I know how sensitive a motherboard is; there was aslo one pin that was directly between the power supply and proccessor right behind the audio plugs which was a little hard to get out. I could have wacked somthing slightly but I'm don't think so, I tryed to be as careful as I could while working inside of it. Does anyone might know what I did, or did wrong? or how I could fix it? Thanks for anyones help in advance.

It seems to me that the overheating from the old power supply may have damaged the audio card or the onboard sound chip but i cant be 100 percent sure on that,.I wouldn't have put the old power supply back in, you can cause more damage from overheating which can result in other componets such as the processor and MB frying, get a new power supply as soon as possible and one that is the same wattage and make as the old one that way you cant go wrong. when you have put the new power supply in try the sound again, it may be just the power supply then again it may not.

Thanks. I kind of had that idea in the back of my mind knowing that i might fry the motherboard or other parts, but my family still wanted it hooked up(they want me to fix every problem with the PC,b tu don't want to leave it alne when i tell them too). My only question though is how could I ruined the sound card? It was working absolutely fine just before I pulled the power supply. I had it running just before I shut it down and unplugged it to pull the power supply. Are you talking an influx of poer when I reconnected the power supply? Also I don't have a sound card on my PC i think it's an onboard audio proccessor on the mb.
