Best Buy lies?

I recently got my laptop back from Best Buy (after they said they've been working on it... then the next day I call and another man says no ones worked on it...) BUT ANYWAYS. When I went to pick it up, I was informed that my laptop had 20 viruses and 120 spyware. They said they could remove it... for $60. I said "naw, I'll take my chances" (I was really surprised with this, since I always did virus and spyware checks). So I come home and immediatly start a virus check on norton. Norton finds absoulutely nothing. I check for spyware on other programs of mine and it only recieves around 10 or so (not 120). Now... can I still have viruses that Norton didn't discover? My laptop seems to run perfectly... hardly any pop-ups... and no signs of a virus. Did best buy lie to me, to get more money? Or am I totally wrong and there could be viruses/spyware that my programs didn't detest?
I love best buy, but I'm just unsure of the technician trying to cheat me out. Also... my ad-aware program seemed to have been deleted when I recieved it back... not sure why tho, since all my other programs are still here.
While I'm at it... what are some good/free spyware programs? Thanks!

Spybot
Ad-Aware
Running those two back to back should get rid of all Spy-Ware.
And yeah, he fucked you over.

Yeah I 'm sure they do lie. I think there on comition. Also I bet it was some college kid right? I recently bought a new Sony Vio Desktop package that cost $2,500+. The new ones that have liquid cooling systems. Then they where trying to get me to spend anouther $350 for the extended warrenty, which I didn't have cause my parents where paying for it. The Kid starts going on about how he recently tryed out the PC at some kind of training course for it and saying that condensation builds up inside the PC becuase of cooling system, and that it could get wrecked a lot easier. He started saying about how it works like a air conditioner and everything, and how Sony put pre-drilled holes in the side of the PC so the moisture can try and escape and not cauae condensation. ...There isn't any pre-drilled holes in the PC case from what I can tell, it just looks like theres a small section of the top half of the case that is seperated from the rest of it to keep the cooling system away from the other internal parts.Just a 2 inch gap that seperates 1/4 of the pc from the other 3/4, No holes drilled in the side of it. Also my PC is a a small cramped nook under PC desk, and the wood has nerer had condensation built up on it since I've had. So I think there just trying to fuck peopel over.
Nothing but sit on there ass college, and high school kids that work there. When I went to buy my Xbox there I told the guy 4 times to get the system for me so I could go since that was the only thing I was getting and he just looked at like I was a fucking idiot, as he stood around talking with his friends that worked there. Then he turns around and tells me to get whatever other accessories I was getting before he took it out of the case, which I wasn't getting any. I already had some demo disks to hold me over, plus at the time I was just planning on sitting on the system until MK:DA came out.
Best buy is a really good store though, good prices, and the Reward Zone Program is awsome, but they just have really shitheads working there. People who don't know jack shit about what they're doing, or selling.

Not necessarily; spyware programs can be tenacious little bastards. I had Ad-Aware and Spybot for a long time, but the psyware just kept coming back. Probably from visiting too many porn sites. At one point it got so bad Internet Explorer literally didn't function at all. I went to Best Buy, described the problem, and the guy there told me it'd $20 or $30 to fix, and it was either that or format my hard drive, so I brought it in. The price ended up being about $200. I guess the guy who said $20-30 was referring to an absolute bare minimum. Plus it took about two weeks to fix (I'd been told it'd be three or four days). They put on Spy Sweeper, which I find to be more effective than Ad-Aware, but the damn spyware always comes back.
Anyway, I'd suggest waiting to see if there are any problems with your comp before you spend your hard-earned money on something you don't need now, and won't completely protect you in the future.
Yeah I agree, alot of the people there know jack shit... which pisses me off because I put applications in their and on response, yet alot of the people trying to help me do nothing but hinder me.. But in Best Buy's defense there are some good workers there.
Also, it might not have been best buy that necessarly scammed you... I bet he was trying to just pocket a quick sixty bucks, figured you didn't know what your talking about.

Format a Hard Drive?
You can delete everything thats on a Hard Drive. It's Partitions and everything. It doesn't cost any money to reformat a hard drive. Just time.

I know it doesn't cost money, but I don't know how to do it. I'm not especially computer literate in that area.

Definitely.
Doesn't mean that Best Buy ISN'T trying to rip you off, though.
