Yea I'm excited for this too.
I seen an interview the director compared its tone to that of The Wrestler and Black Swan.
It looks to at least have a nice slice of dry ass humor in there too.

I hope it's like that. When I first heard of it, I thought it would be entirely a comedy., but after that trailer came out I was kind of confused. After reading more about it, I'm pretty excited for it to be more of a dramady.

- 'Birdman': Venice Review [SPOILERS]
Michael Keaton soars in Alejandro G. Inarritu's brilliantly directed dark comedy about celebrity and creation
Birdman flies very, very high. Intense emotional currents and the jagged feelings of volatile actors are turned loose to raucous dramatic and darkly comedic effect in one of the most sustained examples of visually fluid tour de force cinema anyone's ever seen, all in the service of a story that examines the changing nature of celebrity and the popular regard for fame over creative achievement. An exemplary cast, led by Michael Keaton in the highly self-referential title role of a former super-hero film star in desperate need of a legitimizing comeback, fully meets the considerable demands placed upon it by director Alejandro G. Inarritu, as he now signs his name.
The film's exhilarating originality, black comedy and tone that is at once empathetic and acidic will surely strike a strong chord with audiences looking for something fresh that will take them somewhere they haven't been before.
Not usually one to put a lot of stock in reviews, but this is informative and encouraging. Riddled with spoilers, so if you already know what's in store and want to ride the element of surprise, skip the review.

Not bad! I prefer the cartoon Keaton with Birdman on his head, though.

- Fox Searchlight Parodies ‘Batman Returns’ in ‘Birdman’ Viral Trailer
The whole concept of Birdman starring Michael Keaton involves a star who used to play a superhero named Birdman try to make a new run at his career by heading to Broadway — and Fox Searchlight has debuted one of the most unique viral marketing strategies for Birdman by releasing a fake trailer for the fictional 1992 film Birdman Returns (complete with aged footage), with Keaton’s fictional character Riggan Thompson playing Birdman.
So good!

- 'Birdman' composer disqualified from Oscar contention
Sanchez's drum-heavy score — already nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics' Choice Award — has been disqualified from Oscar consideration. In a statement Tuesday, Sanchez said his work on director Alejandro González Iñárritu's drama, featuring Michael Keaton as a washed-up superhero-movie star, was deemed ineligible by the Academy's music branch "even after receiving a detailed cue sheet, a letter from the president of music at Fox studios and a description of the process from both Alejandro and myself."
"The music that people remember after watching the movie is the sound, originality, character and strength of my score, which seems to be the reason it continues to receive attention, nominations and awards, which I'm deeply humbled by," Sanchez said. "Some of the finest composers are members of the Academy, and I'm saddened my score didn't resonate with the decision makers."
Pfrrrtttttt!

Saw it got nominated for a lot of awards, and I love Emma Stone. I'll probably watch it to see what all the fuss is about.

What's your critique? What about it makes you feel so strongly that it's a step down, or departure for the Oscars?
Aside from Norton's douchebag character, the movie overall was quite boring to be honest tried too hard to elicit emotion in me. Also, the ending left me a bit perplexed - did he jump, or was he actually flying?? A very sluggish movie in a nutshell.
I personally think Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was the best film of 2014. Too bad it won't receive a hint of appraisal at the Oscars.

- Original ‘Birdman’ Ending Featured Johnny Depp
In Jeff Goldsmith’s annual podcast with Oscar-nominated screenwriters, Dinelaris described the film’s alternative endings, including the one with Depp.
“Then the camera ... went backstage through the halls we’ve seen the whole time and we’d get to the dressing room, where literally Johnny Depp would be sitting looking in the mirror and putting on his Riggan Thomson wig, and then the poster of Pirates of the Caribbean 5 would be in the back. In Jack Sparrow’s voice [he would say], ‘What the fuck are we doing here, mate?’ It was going to be the satire of the endless loop of that,” Dinelaris explained.
Probably for the best.

- Flying High With ‘Birdman,’ Keaton Looks Back on ‘Batman,’ ‘Beetlejuice’ and More
On being cast in Birdman:
I was doing a movie, and I got a call from my agent. She explained what it was and said, “They don’t want to tell you exactly what it is.” So, I flew back for a day to meet Alejandro, because any actor with a pulse wants to work with someone like him. I’d seen his movies and am an enormous fan. I just flew back to have this conversation, but he really couldn’t explain what the movie was that he wanted to make. He really was trying to explain it. He was very forthcoming about his whole life and that he was going through changes and what he thought. He was really open about what he was going through, and what he wanted to say with this movie.
It was a great conversation. He lives near me, so I drove him home and got the script, got on a plane to go back to work, and read it. It would have been so hard for me to say no. I was going to be in it, regardless of anything he said. I told a friend of mine, “I would have done this movie based on ‘Amores Perros,'” and he said, “I would have done it based on the car accident scene in ‘Amores Perros’.” He’s quite something, that guy.
A whole heckuva lot more in the article. Very good read. Not strictly Birdman centric - in fact, the majority is retrospective of the rest of his career. Check it out.

- ‘Birdman’ gets its own ’90s-style toy commercial
As Birdman prepares to take its Oscars victory lap in theaters, Fox Searchlight has released a note-perfect take on 1990s toy commercials to promote the (presumably?) nonexistent action figure tie-in.
Oh, yeah. Birdman won some awards or something, too.
