Blocking in Fighting Games

My question is when you play fighting games, what kind of "blocking strategy" do you use?
Would you say you block often to get an upper hand on your opponent and attack when the time is right, or do you only block when you are losing, thinking this is your last chance at winning?
Would you say you never block at all?
When I play fighting games, I try to block often. This way I can think of my next move and attack for a greater effect.
Your thoughts?

Depends a lot on the game. In 2D fighters like MKII or Street Fighter I'm a very defensive player, turtling constantly. Mostly because I've got the timing figured out to the point where it's nearly impossible to hit me if you go on the offensive. In 3D games like Tekken, I'm a very offensive player, seeking to inflict as much damage as possible and rarely blocking at all. I'm not as good in the offensive role, but it's a lot harder to be defensive in 3D.

I hardly ever block. I know the buttons there, I just don't seem to think of using it.

I simply block until my opponent uses an attack that takes up a lot of reaction time so that I can get a fast combo in, well on Tekken anyway.
When they're stunned or doing the blocking I'll open up on them, a lot depends on which games block throws and which ones counter or use evasive moves.

I don't usually block much. I have fairly poor reaction time, and I'm not good at interpretting what move is coming next. So I tend to be on the offensive side in most games, unless I feel overpowered.

fuck blocking.
thats pretty much all i have to say... (-_-)
i never blocked, and i dont see the point, you still take damage, it's pretty much pointless, i only play mk, but eh, that dont mean i never tried the other fighting games.
blocking, i guess is essential to some, but i prefer not to use it, im always offensive, since i found that is the best way to go through it, but eh, everyones different.

Block when attacked, after an attack, attack in openings, hard with the soft, yin and yang, you must yeild to your foe in order to defeat him, wank, wank, wank.
You know the deal.
