Hey everyone! Long time, no talk :(
Well anyway, pretty recently I've decided that I'm going to start getting my body into a lot better shape, get fit, and start building some muscle. I even bought a Shake Weight (it actually works!) lol. I've been waking up every morning and going for a walk/run/jog around my town, except today because it was raining and that bummed me out :(
I don't have a gym membership but thinking about getting one whenever I know of a special deal going on. We have the p90x CD's that I tried once but was way to out of shape to continue with them, but maybe I will further down the line. My goal is to have a completely different body by the end of summer. I just need to get my eating habits and sleep cycle in check which is probably the most important factor in all of this.
I just wanna know if anyone has any advice for getting fit. I'm particularly interested in gaining mass/muscle. If anyone is a fitness expert PLEASE leave me your words as I would like to know what's the best way to get some muscle onto my body. I'm 20yrs, 6'2 and 178lbs so I'm a pretty slim dude but I can build lean muscle if I tried.
So if anyone has any suggestions for exercises I could do for my arms, chest, legs and glutes, please leave a comment!
Thanks for taking time out to read this :)

It's good that you're getting back into shape. Though I must warn you about gym memberships. They can screw you out of money big time if you don't be careful with them. I've ended two memberships because they were charging me with outrageous prices that I know I didn't need to pay and had no idea why I was getting charged with these prices.
P90x isn't something to just walk right into, at least in my opinion, it's something like, you're in shape and want to take it to the next level.
I know that there are some fitness workouts online that are simple to do. I do that, despite it's yoga.
Also, a good run every now and then won't hurt either.

I'll have to watch about the gym memberships. If I do decide to get one I'll make sure I'll ask about rates and if they'll hit me with surprise charges and whatnot. and hopefully I can resume my morning run tomorrow. These past few days have been lovely where I live except today :/

Sports.
Not leagues or anything like that. But to build muscle, you want to have a good all-around healthy workout as well. A lot of stop&go, brief moments of exertion with good speed and movement in between.
Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Football.
I once lost 80lbs by just eating healthier and walking about 2 hours a day. So if anybody wants to lose weight, just eat/drink healthier and walk a lot. It works. Unfortunately, My doctor told me I needed to gain weight after or else my body would start attacking my liver. 6'3" 165 lbs wasn't good. But I felt as strong as could be. I gained about 45 lbs which he said was most healthy for my height and body type.
One piece of advice for building muscle. DO NOT use juice. I know a few people who do. It is fucked up. I would never put anything in my body.
I maintain a good build with nothing more than physical work. So lifting weights for short but challenging reps is always good. Combined with lighter but more constant stress of some sort.
If your feeling like you had a good workout and physically exhausted in a good way, then your doing the right job. Be careful not to do too much at once, though.

PorkandBeans, I'm a personal trainer. Raidenthefridge has some good advice...and to elaborate more I'd say the main exercises to do if you're looking to get big fast are your bench, squat, and deadlift, and the overhead shoulder press, dips and pullups to a slightly lesser extent. The reason? They're all compound exercises, which means they hit multiple muscle groups at once. They also strengthen your core and build a solid foundation...arms can't get that big without a solid chest and back first.
I would definitely recommend joining a gym too, for one because it is cheaper than investing in all the equipment you really need. And second, and this is just me and not necessarily everybody, but I just plain don't like working out at home. Too many distractions, and I like the environment of being around like-minded people, music playing, etc. Of course, there are great gyms out there and really shitty ones too, so don't be afraid to try a couple out before you commit. Most gyms offer trial guest passes (it helps business) so always ask.
As far as p90x goes since so many people ask about it...it's *ok*, but all it really is a high impact aerobics program that you happen to do at home. It can get you into shape if you stick with it, but there's nothing inherently special about it. Trust me, I tried it once upon a time years ago before I got really into this stuff...you can get better results in a gym with a good lifting program.
You've got the right idea already with diet and sleep because they are both extremely important. Your body doesn't actually grow while working out; it grows afterwords while you're recovering. Also I would recommend taking in 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound that you weigh, every day. That means lots of chicken, fish, and protein shakes.
Good luck man! If you have any questions you can always ask me!

To be honest I don't think you need a gym membership to get in shape. I would say one of the best exercise routines is to base it off of a military workout. Service members are some of the fittest people because their lives depend on it, and most of their routine is based off of body weight exercises (like push-up, sit-ups, chin-up, jumping jacks, and running), rather than actually lifting physical weights.

Sure, that will make you strong, but it won't necessarily make you big...which is what the OP said he wants. To get big it is often necessary to lift *more* than just your body weight.
All those are great exercises and I would never downplay any of them. But you know what's even better than doing, say, dips?
A: weighted dips

6' right here. Being 16 and being that tall with more facial hair than you can shake a stick at... it gets you women and alcohol... not really...

Well then I guess one of the better ways I've heard to put on more muscle mass besides lifting more weights is to actually just super set your workout.
The way it works is you pick two opposite muscle groups. Say your chest and back, and two exercises that targets each. Do both exercises alternating sets with no rest in between. So lets say you do 1 set of push-up then immediately go into doing reverse push-ups with no rest between each set. Keep alternating between exercises until you've done 4 sets of each. You don't have to increase the amount of weight your lifting.
The theory behind is is that by working your muscles in an alternating pattern allows your muscles minimal time to recover between sets. So while your doing reverse push-ups your chest muscles are getting their rest. It causes your muscles to take in more oxygen and bulk up.
I've done it with my biceps with some good results, and I've read Mark Wahlberg used this method to get ready for the movie The Fighter. It helped him to bulk up.
