Not sure about ages here, but Millennials tend to enjoy the act of fixating on something that one wouldn't normally fixate on. Beards. Bacon. Cats. These normal types of things just sort of randomly become "awesome" to people and they talk about them with a reverence usually reserved for things more commonly held in high esteem.

It seems kinda like a joke that's not overly intended to be a joke, yet there tends to be a humorous aspect to the enthusiasm, but I wouldn't call it "liking ironically" since it doesn't tend to involve hipster douchiness and appears to be more genuine overall. Still don't quite get it myself...

Posting a picture of a cat for the sake of posting about cats is not funny.
