Changes in Media...
Anyone who watches any measure of old TV realizes that television, movies, books, and music have undergone serious changes in the past fifty or sixty years. In that span of time we have seen an immesurable increase of strong language, sexuality, crime, and violence--not too rarely at the same time.
To what or whom do you cast blame/thank for these changes? Some say that the perception of reality has not changed, but that society itself has undergone a massive change. Others argue that society has remained the same, just become more open about its malfeasances and misconduct.
Secondly, do you think these changes are positive? Negative? Do you think that it is simply a dawn of a different society, or a different media, but not a better or worse one?
Your thoughts.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!
Plain and simple! It's taken this long because society has gradualy tolerated more influxes of violence, sexuality, etc. Every decade or generatino goes through a significat change that society recognizes and eventually accepts. And of coure the younger generation picks up on it and it bacomes apart of their lives. And so, when they grow up they, have more acceptance for it than their parents did. It continues when they have children and so on.
This also is true with advertising. If the public grows tolerant of such material, then advertisers will catier to their demands.

Hey You_Suck whats up? Good to see ya.
My answer is the evolution of humanity. We are discovering our freedoms more and more. I violence, sexuallity, language and all that other suff we are continually pushing the boundaries to see how far we as a people can go without ripping appart the structure of society. There is no blame, think of 100 or 150 years ago they were probably saying the same thing.
I think that there are two possible outcomes one is that we as a society will get so blatent with these media exposure that it will cause a "snap back" and it will revert to a simpler more innocent tim. OR we will continue to evolve and explore our humanity and the lines of acceptable and indeecent will blur the same way sexuality will eventually blur and the majority of people won't be gay or straight but bi. People will accept that loving a person doesn't depend on the skin color or gender. And out media will reflect it first.
And I am Through!

I've rewitten this three times already and I'll try not to get too political: I think the mass media, following society, is on a pendulum - it swings to the left over a period of years, then it swings back to the right. Always in constant feedback and maintaining equilibrium. If you think that TV and movies are too permissive now, then you might be pleased to know that the FCC is working to remedy that. The pendulum is swinging once more to the right. It doesn't worry me, I don't think we'll go to the extremes one way or another.

I agree with GrinningEvil. I think there comes a time when the public in general will begin to tire of the more risque trend media that there is today, and, seeing as how television, radio, etc. is a business, they will change the content of what they broadcast to suit audience demands. Then, the opposite will happen; people will want to see something with a little more edge. These things just fluctuate back and forth over time. Nothing wrong with it, it's just the way society as a whole is. We're constantly looking for something fresh and new to entertain us. Sometimes it's violence or sex until we tire of it, then we go the other way a certain extent to something a little more innocent until that bores us, and on and on.

1337...there is no 1337 none of us can be 1337 because we are all the same, we are all human. The sooner we realize that, the better off we'll be.

I feel that media has been in a slump for quite a few years. There are always phases when there's nothing good on tv, or when nothing new is out, but lately, the phase has seemed to last a bit longer than usual.
To me it feels like, though the main object is still money, the media producers are going for it at the expense of any possible creativity. I know some companies have to do that to survive, such as Midway, but it sucks horribly for those of us who miss shows ans movies that had actual content.
It feels as if there are only a few creative geniuses left that are able to get something in the limelight without it getting completely adulterated.
We are in an age of sequels and spinoffs where people seem to feel that there are no creative ideas left. That is all I see on tv: remakes of Ninja Turtles, sequels on Transformers, a bastardization of Knight Rider, movies of Spiderman, reruns of the classics on Adult Swim, but very few things that are new, innovative, and actually last more than a few weeks.
At the same time though, I'm thankful that so many of my favorite shows are getting on DVD. Lol, I've had a bit of a goal to collect DVD versions of all of my favorite shows so that I can give up TV altogether, haha.
But I do hope that something changes soon, I miss looking forward to something new on tv without fear of it getting horribly messed up by the time I get to see the whole thing of it.
