I haven't gotten it yet, but I was thinkin' about pickin' it up tomorrow and joining. Anyone got it? Anyone able to describe it? What's the servers like? The players/community?
I'm still on Star Wars Galaxies just because I like Star Wars (I'll be stayin' with that game as well, but DC is appealing).
What's leveling like?
I've seen tutorial vids from some people on youtube but they're kinda boring and it seems everyone so far wants to be a villain with ice or fire abilities who can fly.

It plays like a console action game and is relatively lag free. The public spaces are HUGE. There are two types of PVP, the standard PVP and Legends where ya get to play as an actual DC character. The only major issues I have with it is the in game chat is balls awful and the level cap is 30. it's the best super hero MMO on the market right now.
If ya get the game, my character name is Joe Von Zombie on the Countdown server. I'll show you the ropes. (I'm on PS3)

If I get it for PC will I still be able to join you, though? I don't have a PS3 (debating getting that or a 360 soon, though, for MK).
Level 30 cap would be cool so you can be a kick ass hero or villain asap, but at the same time it's always good to take your time. Then again I did that for Star Wars and when the heroic instances came out I was level 40 surrounded by elite and boss 92's LOL.
I'll be heading into the mall tomorrow to pick it up if they have it. I was wondering what about alter egos? How many characters can you have per server? I only have one entirely on Star Wars, but if you can't have an alter ego in DC I was thinking of having a second one if I'm able to PS. Thanks for the info, much appreciated

It isn't cross platform :( It was supposed to be but SOE's billing department shot that down.

Ah...that sucks. Well thanks anyway, man. I'll still bug ya on here if I need to. I've checked out the site the other day when I first started thinking about pickin' it up and already thought about what to go in it. Just not really sure of a background as of yet or name.
I hope SOE doesn't mess this game up it seems promising. Star Wars Galaxies has way too many jedi in it (one's too many in my oppinion). I heard about Green Lanterns being all over in it, though. I guess we'll see what happens

It will probably be the current one based on that Renee Montoya is The Question in this, but who knows, Both of them could be in

I'm a fan of Booster Gold, myself. I wish I could have him as a mentor..rofl!
Anyway yeah I just heard somewhere about the Lantern guys. Maybe it's just a power and people are aiming high to be as close as possible. I'm expecting to see a million Batman wanna-be's. I love the reward suits I've seen vids for on the official site, though.

Booster Gold is your tour guide in the game (sorta). After all the tour quests you kinda get tired of his humor.

Booster Gold serves as your tour guide through gotham and metropolis.

I probably wouldn't get tired of him, for once someone won't shut up or has worse jokes than I do! He's my new hero and I think I'll name one of my offspring down the road "Booster" some day! lol

The game is absolutely amazing. There is nothing really I could complain about other then Ice-Tanks and Nature-Healers being able to be OP and the fact that if you have a Gadgets character and are flying while using a Bomb, it can glitch and fly back and forth and basically leave you unable to do anything for a few seconds.
*insert ass kicking while waiting for bomb to get fixed here*
The Joke-android is by far the most entertaining voice I have encountered so far.
With the right weapons (Dual pistols, brawling, etc) you can solo the missions by yourself if you really wanted to. I do that for most of them because I feel like whenever I play an MMO other people slow me down. It's not even like the are busy typing in chat, they just feel the need to go slow-motion to piss me off. Meanwhile I run ahead and kill everything leaving them with no XP.

I picked this up for the PC and agree that it's pretty damn fun. I could give you a rundown of my personal pro's and con's but this user review from giantbomb.com hits all the high's and low's. I'm on Virtue and Vice (PvE) if you're interested in linking up.
Oh and one more thing, I highly recommend picking up a gamepad for this. It just is so much more fun and rewarding to have multi-axis thumbsticks.
Also...for fun...some trailers:

Thanks, Mojo! I've caught the trailers a while back (well obviously not the fractured one since it's kinda new)
I was thinking of going martial arts, gadget, with acrobatic movement, just not sure traps or tricks though. I guess I'll have to try them out. Is there respecs in it just in case?

Giantbombs review for DCUO was bullshit. They criticize the game for the things that ALL MMO's do (except Eve) They also claim that the games combat fails to latency which simply isn't true. If you're connection is decent, the game feels like an action game and works as intended. apparently the guys at Giantbomb couldn't splurge on DSL.
I love those guys, but sometimes they really piss me off.

Martial arts is a really fun melee set with shortish combo strings (so you're less likely to mess them up) and also has an excellent distance closing lunge attack. Gadgets is a pretty solid set but remember, in DCUO Gadgets is a
Controller role (which means you apply debuffs, restore energy to teammates, and, apply various "conditions" and "power interactions" that can cause "encasement" paired with other powersets). Going DPS with Gadgets usually means you're going "glass cannon" as you dont really have any built in survivability beyond a moderate Heal over Time power so, melee Gadgets is sort of rough going. I sort of stalled out on my Dual Wield Gadgets character because I got sick of getting deuced (to be fair DW has extremely long combo chains).
If you reallly want a solid rundown on Gadgets, this guide on the official DCUO forums has been pretty helpful to me.
On acrobatics...my favorite movement set, especially playing with a controller. It emulates playing as Batman pretty blatantly though so, if you're not keen on the Bat then you might not dig it.

Definitely agree. I watched their quick look and you could tell that they had already sort of made up their mind about the game before they were even out of the tutorial. Jeff's written review didn't do the game justice either. All I can say is that I played City of Heroes/Villains for 3 years, Champions Online for 3 Months, and DCUO is heads and shoulders above both...even at launch. Yes there are grindy elements to it (I mean show me an MMO that doesnt'), yes there are bugs and balance issues, and yes the customization isn't as varied and sophisticated but, the core game mechanics are solid and fun. And fuck...I don't even really like the DC Universe that much.
I've been looking for an Action MMO that incorporated elements of console action/rpg combat mechanics and so far, DCUO seems to fit the bill.

I would love to get this game but I don't got the dough but from what I've heard it's really good

Whats the character creation like?
Thats probably the most important part of an mmo for me, the only one that had a really great character creation was City of Heroes/Villains, but of course the game was dull.

Well if you've played City of Heroes then I'll use that as a basis of comparison.
Also, I'm guessing you mean pure aesthetic customization so I'll focus on that.
There's some pretty heavy similarities with CoX except there's no "slider" options to affect body type, facial appearance, or anything like that. You basically get gender selection then either the Large, Medium, Small body type. These differ in gender in that the Large Male looks like the Hulk whereas the Large Female just looks like a inflated version of the Medium. There's a pretty detailed "Skin" selection too though that has a lot of options so you can make some different ethnicities, zombies, cyborgs, demons, etc.
Hair options are pretty similar to CoX so nothing exceptionally new there.
Costume options to put it succinctly are naturally more graphically detailed and better drawn than CoX but lack the deep customization that Champions Online has. Another aspect worth noting is that not all costume options are available straight from character creation...you have to unlock them in-game.
Here's a link of someone going into detail about it since seeing it in action might make a little more sense.

That sounds pretty cool.
Yeah the city of villains creation was brilliant, you could do pretty much anything. My character was a tall, totally nude reptile woman with white skin, clawed feet and a tail. And pigtails...

Well everyone knows that the best giant reptile women wear pig-tails. Also the Feb. update is coming this Tuesday for those interested.
