Dreamcast owners, I need some help. Got a question that might involve corrupted save data and the VMS.

K, now, I got my DC from a bud who's moving back to taiwan. It's japa modded and all that good stuff. I want to start a new shenmue game, however when I go to start one I get a loading error. "Retry loading the file," or something. Which doesn't make since, yet, but wtf ever.

Could my VMS be corrupted? Or just those Shenmue files? Other data from the various games are intact. Though, oddly, when I tried to play Shenmue the first few times, it seamed to have locked up on the inital, black screen, load. Don't know if that means anything in regards to my situation...

I could re-format the VMS, but when my buddy moves back I want to have his shit still there for good measure. I could buy another VMS, but then that wont tell me much; it works, or it doesn't, but why?

I'm sure it's something hella' retarded; I'm always good for those -_-. Any info, suggestions, pitty? Peace and love ya'll.

The DC is one of the greatest systems ever made. Way before its time. Not only is the library of quality games amazing, many of which aren't bullshit "oh, lets leech off this genre" type of game. Many of the games were very innovative in their design, while taking risks in order to be innovative. This ideal was aided because of it's easy development prowess. Which meant production cost were cheaper for developers. All of which is something that's HIGHLY lacking in a now stagnant and "play it safe with gimmicky garbage" industry.

A great fighting game roster. Great racers. Phantasy Star Online; I shouldn't even have to say anything more after that one. Burning was hella, hella easy for those on a budget. Great hardware design. The PCB from the DC pads are easy as shit to hack for custom sticks; again, great for fighters. It was priced well. It didn't even "fail." It was simply over shadowed by the looming ps2 and a fuck up in production numbers - which is well documented.

Secondly, I didn't pay anything for it. ZERO. I went up to chill with my bud before he left. He had to much to pack and he can get that shit for like $5 in Taiwan. So he just gave it to me; 1337 to the max, he is; indeed.

So yah, lol. Thanks for answering my question, btw. tongue

Edit: That sig freaks me out, lol. Good stuff.

Yes indeed. The DC is an excellent system. The VMU was a stroke of brillance. I took that little friend with me more than my gameboy. As far as your data man, I wish you luck in fiquing it out.

amen... the DC was way innovative... RIP (mine still rests in my room)

as for your VMUs... make sure that the game, the system and the VMs are all formatted the same (PAL, NTSC, whatever)... if the VM isn't, than you'll probably have to erase the data and reformat
