ethernet cable question

I just got a 3' Cat6 ethernet cable... mainly because I was told that if I got a cat5 and replaced that cable thats hooked up to my wireless router... then I could get better (lower) pings on my wireless laptop, when I play multiplayer in doom 3. Is this true at all? Does Cat5 and/or Cat6 get better internet/faster connection when using a wireless laptop?

Oh and whats the difference between a Cat5 and Cat6? The cat6 cost 2 bucks extra... and the guy at best buy said cat6 was for future networking, but worked the same as a cat5... is this true? Thanks!

and I hate people with smart-ass comments. I come here to ask questions and get answers. Not this "go google it" shit. I swear, people are getting more and more bitchy on msg boards and coming up with the "go google" thing. I can do that, but I thot it would be better if I asked a variety of people if Cat6 ethernet cables work better than just any ordinary ethernet cable. Kinda like... a POLL. Is that really so hard to ask for... I mean... REALLY now?
