My favorite arcade moment would have to be when I beat 22 people in a row while playing MK2. Another is when I beat Guilty Gear XX in the arcade, and that is no easy feat.

My would have to be the moments of the 90s to 1997. Arcades went downhill starting in 1998.

Definitely the day that MK2 came to my local arcade. I was still relatively young at the time (9 or so I believe) so I had no information sources and therefore no clue that a sequel was on the way.

Anyway, on the Friday that the machine first debuted in my arcade, I finished my practice for my junior swim team and my family customarily went out to eat at one of the surrounding restaurants in the mall. Afterwards we walked to the mall entrance and as usual I always glanced towards the arcade as we walked by (my parents were always a little strict about me going in there when I was younger, since, as I am willing to admit, we had some shady characters in there). I just remember seeing this huge crowd dead center in the front of the arcade and as one person shifted, I could see the lightning marquee.

I remember literally grabbing my older brother by the arm and pulling him towards the door saying, "Oh my god, oh my god..." and pointing to the crowd (obviously my brother and I were obsessed with the first game). Once in the smokey crowd I could hear the new game, but realized that I had zero chance of competing with the seemingly gigantic twenty-somethingers that were surrounding the cabinetfor a glimpse of the action. So I looked around and noticed that one of the little quarter kiddie rides that are kept towards the front of the arcade was an old fashioned car with a long, flat hood. I made my way to it and climbed on top of the hood.

From there I just stood mesmerized for the entire night. Even though the screen had already been damaged (color scheme was so poor on one side that I thought reptile was a gray ninja on the select screen) I couldn't get enough. I stood up there describing everything that my brother couldn't see.

Then, to top it all off, as the gates were being lowered for the night and the ten minute warning call went out...somebody did it...I watched as Johnny Cage (who I thought was the biggest pansie from the first game) grabbed his opponents waist and tore the torso right off of the lower limbs...I was in awe, and I couldn't shut up about it all the way home.

Ahhh, the memories...

I went to the T4 regionals in Seattle a couple of years ago. I got to play peeps like Tensaikun, MattyD, other cali players. I got my ass kicked. My eyes where then open to the truth and I've never looked back or stopped learning since.

I also got, 35-37 wins playing T4. Would have had an addational eight, but I fucked around with Yoshi...bad move, heh.

Edit: Oh, yeah. My MK2 experience; we had two cabs at the arcade when it came out. Also, two TV's above each cab streaming the action. Obviously, the huge crowds. It was pretty sick.
