I have to do a game-pitch idea for class. I decided to take iconic hack n' slash characters and put them in a fighting game. The type of characters I'm going for are fast-paced e.g. God of War, Dante's Inferno etc. The characters will be original but I'm looking for inspiration gameplay wise. Feel free to add any character suggestions
Gameplay
I'm trying to capture the speed, fluidity and bloody carnage featured in games like God of War, Dante's Inferno, Ninja Gaiden etc. Instead of going back and forth across the screen (traditional way), players would fight in wide open arenas from iconic game levels.
Story
When an inter-dimensional demon threatens the very existence of multiple realms, the Watchers – the guardians of time and space – summon the greatest warriors across the multiverse to challenge him. As the demon's armies terrorize the various Earths, a group of demon-slayers are pulled from their respective worlds to destroy them. However, with the entity's power up for grabs, the warriors soon find themselves turning on each other for the ultimate prize.
Characters
-Kratos (GoW)
-Samanoske (Onimusha)
-Dante (Dante's Inferno)
-Bayonetta (Bayonetta)
-Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden)
-Nariko (Heavenly Sword)
-Gabriel (Castlevania)
-Dante (DMC)
-Bloodrayne (Bloodrayne)
-War (Darksiders)
-St. Lucia (Dante's Inferno)
-Rachel (Ninja Gaiden)
-Virgil (DMC)
Before settling on the demon-slayer concept I considered Raiden (MGS), Alex Mercer (Prototype), Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes) and Starkiller (Star Wars: Force Unleashed). These characters didn't seem to fit in with the storyline.

So would there be minions and generic monsters in the arena along with the fighters? Or would it just be one on one? I think having each character have an army of generic monsters helping them would make the game feel more hack and slash as it could lead to a swarm of enemies being cut down in bloody glory.
And if you're going to make the characters all original anyway then don't worry about certain characters not fitting in storywise because you could just make characters identical to those left out and put them in the story however you want.
