Our local scene in Corpus finally assembled at a vintage gaming store called "Casual Gamer" for a Third Strike and AE tournament. I didn't participate in Third Strike because I'm trash at that game, but I entered the AE tourney registering under the character Rose.
I had not touched SF4 since Marvel came out, so I wasn't optimistic at all. I went in thinking it would be a good learning experience and I'd be supporting the community.
And then I beat a Ken player for my first match... and then beat a Fei player for my second. For my third match, I went up against the winner of the Third Strike tournament who was sporting Evil Ryu. He took the first match with authority, took the first round of the second match, and then I beat him two rounds consecutively taking the second match. By the third match, I decided to just poke and anti-air him till I could bring in the cross up pressure, and that's exactly what I did. I grinded away his life bar with pokes, pressured him with cross ups, and took the victory by punishing an EX-Shoryuken.
Ultimately, I was put into losers bracket by an aggressive rushdown Juri and was eliminated by a solid Vega player. No regrets, though. The whole thing was an unbelievably positive experience. To hear the commentator complimenting my Rose's pressure game... it's unreal. It's a fucking dream come true.
Excellent players all around. Next week is Marvel and Mortal Kombat. Wish me luck.
(And also, thanks to Kabal20 and Shoe for the feedback in my last thread. Still some issues, but the SSF4 stuff is fixed... mostly).

Congrats on your tournament success. Not sure how I helped (are you referring to the Madcatz TE stick thread), but glad I could none the less.

I live in Corpus, but I work in Ingleside. If you're in the area, you should hit up the next casual gamer tournament.

Thanks, and good luck, bro. I think everyone's wired differently when it comes to tournament nervousness, so I don't have any definitive advice for ya. All I can really say is to have an answer for every problematic match-up (EX: I have trouble against Bisons, so I try to have an anti-Bison game plan ready... not saying it works, but I have one, lol).
But I'm preaching to the choir. I don't even think nerves are all that important to be honest with you. I was nervous as hell, and I don't think that affected my game in the long run. In the end, muscle memory and your subconscious will probably do most of the work. My theory, anyway.

Thanks dude. Are you a 360 guy? I'm going to be throwing down in System Snake's King of the Hill this Friday. I've missed every one so far, so I'm going to make a point to show this time. If one or both of us misses it though, I'm Otter of Death on Xbox.

Well done, Temp!
So, going into the MK tourney, I suppose you're gonna play with Smoke? Will you have a back up character? I think I remember you saying Sub-Zero is your back up?

Thanks, dude. I will most definitely be registering under Smoke. I'm so happy with how my Smoke has matured over the past few months. As for my back up... I don't know. Truthfully, if someone is able to shut down my Smoke so authoritatively that I'm convinced my Smoke strategy is ineffective, I'm probably screwed anyway.
If it does come to that, Sub is definitely my second best character... but my worst match-up is Smoke-Ermac, and I honestly don't feel Sub is a very strong answer to Ermac. I'll probably keep Sub as my primary counter-pick, with Sektor on reserve for Ermac matches. My Sektor is good on paper, but I really need to work on my execution with him. I do great with him in training mode when it comes to setups and responses, but I go blank in actual fights.

Congrats bro! That's pretty epic. You should practice some and maybe you'll win the next one.

Thanks, and that's definitely my goal. For the SSF4AE tourney, I was mostly there to support the community because I wasn't all that confident in my AE skills. Not this time. I've put a lot of time into MK, and now I'm out for blood.

I just bought SSF4AE a few days ago. (I've been wanting to for a while but never got around to it)

Thanks, and enjoy the spiritual journey of finding a "main." Have your eyes on any specific character yet?

Very nice man.
I still want to compete at a local tourney myself. The way you described it sounds amazing. Congrats!!

The way the tourney scene has been for the past few months, there's a decent chance you won't have to face any Ermac players. His popularity among the tourney players has dropped massively.
Good to hear Sektor getting some love! I'm sure you just need some more actual match practice so that your execution with him polishes out.
Well, once again, good luck and let us know how you did!

I've been using Dhalsim the most, ol' stretch.
It's quite a change after playing MK and Tekken, but it's entertaining to learn.

Have you tried Juri yet? I find her to be one of the closest MK style character Street Fighter has personally. She's quick, and has a lot of potential combo mix ups. Her Feng Shui Engine Ultra lets you combo/chain her normals, similar to the combo system of UMK3.

Just got back from the MK tournament. Results are in the matchmaking thread.
Thanks, bro. It was an amazing experience, and I feel like the year I put in trying to master AE started to mean something. When people asked me how good I was at Street Fighter, I would respond "I'm decent." It's really cool that I actually have an objective point of reference to demonstrate that. Now I can say that phrase with real conviction, and that's priceless.
I have never in my entire life felt more motivated to train than right now.
I forgot to tell you guys before, but my training partner mains Ermac, lol. He's a great player too, but my Smoke vortex bested him in the end. I was genuinely worried because he messed me up in the casual matches before hand.
I used Sektor in the end-of-the-night casuals with a pretty high success rate, btw.
Casselman would be pleased I think.
