Hey guys, check out this site:

Timeline of the Future

What it is is a speculative time line of human history over the next hundred, two hundred, five hundred, all the way up to millions of years in the future.

The closer we are to today's date, the more information they give us on what we acheive.

They get pretty descriptive so I personally respect what they have to say.

Here are some of my favorites:

2014
Terabyte SD cards are available

SD cards and other memory devices continue to grow exponentially this decade, with storage capacities doubling roughly every year. A terabyte is equal to 1000 gigabytes.

2018
Anti-fat drugs are available

A drug that lets you eat whatever you want without gaining weight is now available.* There is enormous demand for this product, which leads to a major drop in obesity levels throughout the developed world - especially in countries like the USA, which until now had been experiencing a crisis in this regard. Average life expectancy is increased as a result, since there are less people dying of heart-related illnesses.

2024
Gay marriage is legal in every US state

The movement to obtain marriage rights and benefits for same-sex couples in the USA began in the early 1970s. The issue became even more prominent in the 1990s, with Congress' passing of the Defense of Marriage Act.

In the early 21st century, public support grew considerably. By 2011, same-sex marriages had been granted by five of the 50 states, the federal district, and one Indian tribe. By 2015, the number of Americans opposing gay marriage was being exceeded by those in support.*

This progress continued over the next decade, with a growing majority of states declaring same-sex marriage bans to be unconstitutional. By the 2020s, even the southern "Bible Belt" states had begun to overturn the ban, Mississippi becoming the last to do so.*

2042
Floating hotels in the sky*

Giant, vertical airships powered by a combination of hydrogen and solar energy are now a common method of holiday travel for the rich and famous. These ships are nearly 900ft tall when docked. They are capable of lifting 400 tons of payload, in addition to ferrying over 100 passengers and 20 crew to their destination.

Cruising at a maximum altitude of 12,000ft, the ships drift at a leisurely 60-90mph, depending on wind conditions. Popular routes include London to New York (37 hours) and Los Angeles to Shanghai (four days).

Huge internal spaces offer plentiful room for living, dining and relaxing. The lower deck contains a glass bottom floor, enabling passengers to view the land and sea beneath.

Safety is ensured thanks to self-sealing lifting bags. These are made from nanotechnology materials that minimise any potential for skin rupture.*

2085-2090
Manned exploration of the Jovian system

Solar sail technology, nuclear pulse propulsion and other forms of rapid space travel have seen major advances in recent decades.* Together with greatly reduced launch costs and improved access to low-Earth orbit, this is making it financially and technically feasible to conduct manned exploration of Jupiter.

At least one expedition to the gas giant has been attempted by now. This is a privately funded venture, with only a small number of crew onboard, and succeeds in rendezvousing with a moon of Jupiter* in addition to orbitting the planet itself.

2110
Terraforming of Mars is underway

Although no physical processes have been introduced yet, the first serious plans are being drawn up for the planet's gradual transformation, with the ultimate goal of making it habitable for humans. Exactly who will be given control of Mars and its resources - or if the planet should have complete independence - is the subject of much debate and speculation around this time.

So on and so forth. See what you can find.

Beyond 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 AD

The dark era of the universe*

The last remaining black hole has evaporated.

From this point onwards the universe is composed only of photons, neutrinos, electrons and positrons - with no way of interacting with each other.

The universe continues to expand forever... but is essentially dead.

---------------------------------------------------

And then... Some spark of light, very small, erupts for a split second, combining all of the elements into 3 new elements, which then continues to grow...

And grow...

For zillions of years...

And then life starts over anew.

I started reading, and couldn't stop. The 21st century stuff is scary because it's all incredibly believable.

It got way too depressing for me later on, partly because of that whole Universe is expanding but dead, and partly because I won't live to see all of this

I would imagine seeing a lot cyborgs by the end of this century. I've been thinking, can old people with a pacemaker be considered as cyborgs? If not, what do they still need to be considered as cyborgs? In future, cybernetic eyes, arms and guts will replace biological organs of people who get injured cautiously by an accident. Then, those people will become superior to normal people. The result? Normal people demand for better eyes, arms and guts as well and this will result in homo sapiens being slowly turned into more-or-less – cyborgs.

Both of these are what I kept thinking of as I first read this.

My favorite parts are the parts about the booming space industry. All the talk about colonizing other star systems, terraforming planets and moons, and tourism on other worlds.

It'd be more accurate, but less interesting, if it just said "< 2200 A.D. Global warming kills us all. Humanity's epitaph reads 'No, you don't understand, what we're actually going through is a period of global COOLING; God wouldn't let humanity die off you crazy shit.'"

Superhuman powers are available to common citizenry

The nanotechnology of recent decades has conferred powers to citizens that would be considered superhuman by 21st century standards. These upgraded "transhumans" could perform feats regarded as Godlike to denizens of earlier times.

A suitably upgraded individual - if transported back to the year 2000 - would be impervious to weaponry and nearly impossible to contain. They could morph their body into a seemingly infinite variety of forms depending on the situation encountered.*

If trapped in a maximum security prison, for instance, they could alter their own molecular structure, allowing them to walk through walls.* They could broadcast electromagnetic pulse waves to disable electronic devices, vehicles and other objects. Bullets and other projectiles would pass through them with no effect. Microscopic cameras, distributed throughout their body, would function as an all-round 360° sensor - covering the entire electromagnetic spectrum and making it impossible for an attacker to surprise them.

They could sprint at lightning speed and cross a variety of dangerous terrain types: even molten lava would present no obstacle to them. If necessary, they could levitate from ground level to the roof of a skyscraper in seconds. They could turn themselves invisible, morph into another person entirely, or stretch their limbs like elastic.

In many ways, they would resemble a comic book superhero or video game character.

They could manipulate their environment in various ways, generating enough body heat to light a fire, for example, or turning inanimate objects into advanced nanotechnology tools, or modifying the properties of liquids. They could heal a wounded person just by touching them. They could read thoughts and emotions, or extract recent memories.

If standing near others of their kind, they could link and combine their powers to even greater levels – harnessing the power of local weather, for example, or lifting objects weighing thousands of tons.

Their sensory capabilities would be phenomenal. This 24th century person could view individual atoms with the naked eye; or if they wanted to, use their telescopic vision to see distant astronomical objects. They could hear a whisper from miles away, or filter specific voices from a cacophony of background noise. They could determine a precise chemical composition just by tasting, touching or smelling it.

Due to their various biotechnology aids and physical upgrades, they would never require sleep. They could even survive without food and water - living instead off the energy of their surrounding environment, which would be absorbed into their photosynthetic, piezoelectric skin. This same external layering would keep them at peak levels of physical performance, as well as shielding them from the elements.

In fact, many citizens of today have abandoned their homes altogether and taken to a nomadic lifestyle, for this and other reasons. Often, a "home" of today is little more than a small booth or alcove in the street, where a person can temporarily recharge and recuperate, or utilise the greater powers of the net. Even a person's body is often temporary, as they shift between various real world and digital environments. Much of the Earth is now being transformed into a gigantic computer grid where individuals can physically "plug" themselves in.

Not everyone has opted to make this transition. Even now, there are segments of society which are adamant in maintaining a natural, minimally upgraded human body. These people are now a definite minority, however, given the practical immortality and other benefits offered by transhumanism.

In the 60s, people thought there would be commercial flying cars now.

The Technological Advancement Progress is much slower than we allow ourselves to believe. Much of what desire to see in an ultra-technological future is nearly impossible, while others are nearly improbable. Most of what we desire (i.e. commercial flying cars, underwater and outer-space societies, robotic maids, highly advanced beauty supplements such as the anti-fat pill ) are far too dangerous to create. Of course, we will surely advance in technology, but not to the limits we see fit.

The hope of an ultra-technological future will always be in our minds, but it will never be in our reality.

Well, that's my take on it, anyway.

A part of me would love to live in a cybernetic world, but the rest of me wouldn't because I would miss the organic world. It's fun to think of all that cyber stuff as futuristic fantasy, but I don't really want it to become reality. I like humans being human, I like the earth being earthly, and everything else authentic and pure.

I do appreciate the modern technological advancements, but most of that is just to make life easier. I personally wouldn't stand it if the planet turned metallic, cybernetic, and controlled.

Thinking about all of this kinda makes me understand how the Amish feel, haha.

According to Futurama, humanity will be enslaved by giant carrots.
