I own both a Gameshark, and Action Replay which are the same. There cheat devices that let you inject cheat codes that aren't in the game. Basically the device loads these codes to a device like a memory card, or USB thumb drive and loads these codes into the game inself when the game loads to alter it. Cheat codes for games like infinite health, ammo, unlock all items, levels, easy level up, etc. They also allow you to use game saves which either the company, or another game has submitted. With the Xbox since Microsoft doesn't want people cheating online the only option for the Xbox is game saves. This is done via software that is insalled on a PC, and you hook up a USB adapter which lets you plug a special Meory card into, and allows you to drag, and drop games saves from that are pre-installed on the software, as well as games saves that are available on their servers. Most of the most recent versions of these devices have online support for the pS2. So you can just download the cheat codes directly to the device, rather than have to enter them manually, which is a real pain in the ass since there are so many lines of code to enter. You can buy them anywhere video games are sold. It depends which version you buy though, since there are so many versions out there right now. They can range from about $30-$80. I think Gameshark runs about $30-$40, but Action Replay keeps releasing a new version of the software every few months, with a different size thumb/USB drives that saves the codes to. Those can range upwards of $80-$90 I think.

They can be quit glitchy with mutliple problems as well since none of the devices are authorized, or licenced by Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft. Sometimes the codes don't work, some times it causes the game to crash, I've had problems with the software craching when trying to downloads the codes from their servers. Thinking they discontinued support for the device which lead to to buy a more recent version (all that needed to be done was to reset the software to the default settings.). And in some very rare instances I have heard that it can corupt your games save, although I have been using these devices since the PSX/PSOne originally came out, and I personally haven't experinced a single instance with these devices corupting my save files on my memery card.

It's a device that people use when they cannot beat a game the normal way, they have to cheat. That is what a gameshark is for.

I dunno what the costs are, i never use it

It's not just for cheating your way threw a game, it can change differnt things about the game to make it a little more fun to mess around with. Just a few weeks ago I used my Action Replay to infinite health, infinete ammo, and permanent 0 want level on GTA:SA, and just spent 1-2 Hour straight running around shooting everyone I came across in the game for kicks to level up the gun level to hitman so I could carry 2 guns at 1 time. I didn't save it, but it was fun non the less.

I guess you could compare it to why some people hacked the Halo 2 maps. Which was make the game a little more interesting and fun. I certinly don't condone using cheats online like a lot of people who hacked the Halo 2 maps for. But if your playing with other people who are cool with using cheats to alter a game, it can certainly make it more fun. Like infinite ammo in a multiplayer FPS, rather than having to pick up ammo clips.

That's what I'd like to know

Just fry their consoles if they have a cheat device online.

Who ever said that bring them online is justified? I don't think anyone is. Yeah cheat devices do have their own place, and can make playing a game a little more enjoyable at times, but I don't think anyone is trying to justify using them online. If someone wants to use it online with their friends, and everyone participating in it is aware of it, and are cool with playing with it, then yeah I see no problem bring a cheat device online in that instance, and only in tht instance. But if people are going to use it to cheat just to improve their ranking, or keep a perfect undefeated record, or decide to hide the fact of the cheat device being used from the other players, then yeah your right they don't belong online, and i certainly don't condone it either. But for people to outright dislike , abd bash people who use cheat devices, becuase they personally dont like them it's wrong. No one is forcing someone to use a cheat device.

IMO they aren't any different than using codes that are built into the game, such as the codes built into GTA.

Pretty simple. I was raised on this belief: Cheating is wrong. People that cheat at 1 thing, will cheat at other things. Trust me.

Your entitled to your opinion and belief. So cool if you choose not to cheat at games or anything at that matter. I got no problem with that. But...

OPTI0N Wrote:

Your wrong on that. I have never cheated at a single thing in my life. Video games are nothing. Their just entertainment. I see no harm in cheating on games, or using codes to enhance a video game. It's harmless. No disrespect, but by your philosophy it would support the opinion of politician, and the media lately saying that people who play violent video games are going to run out and comit violent act, like in GTA. Which is completly false.
