Have you learned more at school, or outside of it?

Did your education at school teach you pretty much everything you needed to know, or did you learn more outside of school?

In my case, it's the latter. I can barely recall anything of true importance that I learned at school, beyond basic grammar and math. English, for instance, is not even my first language, and while school did help me to learn it a bit, it was mostly outside of school I've gotten better at it. I've learned new words from rather unexpected sources, like the word "dripping" from a Viva La Bam episode that I was watching with french subtitles.

Basically, if I'd stuck with what I learned at school, and wasn't an intellectually curious guy, I feel that my english, and my knowledge of things in general, would be limited today.

So, how good do you think the educational system is at, well, educating?

Equal.

I learned about life outside of school, while I learned some basic education in school.

By the way, school isn't meant to teach you everything about life. It's there to give you a general education on various topics, whether or not you want to learn about them.

This.

School is meant to prepare you for life. Provided you don't suffer brain damage, learning never ends.
