posted03/31/2004 03:10 PM (UTC)byCyborg_wolfOk, this is about Deception, but i didn't think that this was big enough to be a topic on that discussion, so i'll post it here.
The japanese(yes, japanese) word for suicide is
harA kIri.NOT harI kAri!!!!(i wrote the important letters in caps.) Don't get it wrong, or we might just end up with the game announcer saying hari kari, wich would kinda suck.

That may be the correct way of spelling it, however the correct definition is "ritual suicide by self-disembowelment on a sword"
I know it's a stab in the dark, but i bet that these moves in MK will not be done
self-disembowelment on a sword. They will instead be some other nasty way of killing themself.

Oops, forgot to say that you are probably right about the fact that the hara kiri moves will be a hell of a lot gorier then cutting up the stomach.( wich by the way is already gory.)
I can feel another controversy flood coming over media fall 2004... MK style!
Btw, that ninja dress up lesson in your sig is some real funny shit!

Alot of n00bs in the Deception area aren't talking like an obnoxious 12 year old, but they are saying it sucks for no intelligent reason.

Very interesting conversation. Just out of curiosity, while everyone's kind of on the subject, how many of you know, are learning Japanese?

Actually that other guy was right.
Hara Kiri is a cut to the stomach.
Cause Hara = Stomach and Kiri =Cut.
As for Seppuku, the real meaning for that is the same as Hara Kiri except that the suicide was for ritual purposes.
So both Hara Kiri and Seppuku are a lethal cut to the stomach but only Seppuku is for ritual while Hara Kiri is just killing yourself if shamed or whatever.
But I doubt every character is going to slice their guts open. Their suicides will all hopefully be unique in some way or another whether it be with their weapons or their powers.

Hara Kiri is getting on your knees and putting a sword through your stomach as far as I know.
As for MK:D, Midway hasn't even called it the 'Hara Kiri' move yet, just the gaming sites as far as I know. Tho I doubt Midway will use the word 'Suicide', but you're right, Hari Kiri is not just any old 'Suicide'. It's one certain type, which NinjaMaster spoke of above.
