I love sci fi premises like these cause it is something that could happen. Artificial intelligence evolving and becoming self aware.

First off, half os Will Smith's dialogue was bad. I mean almost bordering on Howard The Duck bad! But there were scenes where it really worked! His character's distain for robots is understandable early on, but when he reveals the incident where a girl dies, it's clear why in a way.

The robot that becomes self aware, "Sonny" as his creator called him, almost steals to movie. I like the look of the robots and "Sonny's" personality shows through. The actor who voiced him gave the robot character which was a good thing.

The creator said something about the possibility of a random occurance within the code or programming of a robot that would make it self-aware. Similar to what the guy in Jurasic Park said about nature finding a way.

The 3 Laws stated in the movie illustrate something about the concept of perfection. It can be too perfect.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

What if robots evolved and became self aware and wanted their freedom from servicing humanity's needs, but at the same time abided by the 3 Laws? If anyone has seen their share of anime, you'll probably arrive at the real killer and the motive half way into the movie, but watching it to the end is well worth it!

The special effects paint the ladscape and the world 20+ years from now looks really interesting.

Overall grade: Solid A.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I love how the bots move; it's pretty hardcore looking. Will Smith is always good for a few laughs, too.

ah yes, the robots were seen before in Bjork's music-video "All is Full of Love"...

but it seems that I, Robot director Alex Proyas has his own copy-cat...woman. er, check out the trailer for the Catwoman movie (Halle Berry= tongue, this movie= furious ) "It's been said that when a person dies, a cat can bring back their soul to make the wrongs right." Now look at this line from Proyas' film The Crow: "People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul back to the land of the dead... The crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right."

resurrected-by-animal, brooding, vigilantes in black leather? hm... 'borrowing' is constant in entertainment... it's all relative

Not really! The premise showed up in Batman Returns.

Batman Returns-1992

The Crow-1994

Im very sorry for saying this but, I HATE people like you, You just blurt out stuff before actually taking the time to know it and all, and you with this I, Robot movie, Why dont you go watch it, THEN rate it alright????? Hey to me, I thought Lord of the Rings movies were GAY, but now, I love the movies, they were filled with excitement and it was a Great Movie, so the bottom line is, before you Judge anything, before you talk about something badly and bashing it, get to know the thing.

I want to see this movie just because it looks fun. Batman Begins trailer was supposed to be with it but then they changed their minds.

About Catwoman, in Batman Returns, the director came out and said she never died in the movie, that's why she hit so many things on the way down. She hit the ground and suffered from brain damage -- she went crazy.

It's only now with the wanna-be Catwoman that they are trying to say she died.

black_dragon, while I agree that SmokeYa shouldn't come to a thread just to bash it, your statement is kind of hypocritical. You say that Smoke shouldn't judge a movie before he knows anything about it, but you say that you HATE people like him... do you really know SmokeYa? Can you judge him from a simple, if ignorant statement made on a game site?

Either way, it all comes down to freedom of speech... so fuck you both grin j/k

BTW, nice sig dragon

I refuse to see this movie. It's very creation is an injustice to the author Isaac Asimov, who wrote the book which this movie is based off of. He had very good ideas, and expressed a lot of basic morals. Did I read the book? No. Do I need to in order to express this point? No.

This movie has bastardized his work. As an inspiring author, I would want to kill the man who took my story, twisted the plot into something totally different, and then tried to make millions of dollars off of it.

LOL! I haven't read his works either, but I understand what you're saying. The movie doesn't go into intellectual depth into the questions of morality and responsibility, although I wished it had. If it did, it would have been a much better movie, but it wouldn't have appealed to the PG-13 crowd either. You wanna reach more people? Fuck up the intent of the story where as it fits your target audience. If it was made to honor Asimov intention's for it to be taken seriously, then a better script, cast, and design would have been taken into account, but... Hollywood. sad

Yeah it was bullshit, but it was entertaining bullshit. At least rent it when it comes on DVD Temp. But hearing about Asimov might get me to reading his book to see what he really wanted us to think about.

Think about it doode. wink

OK, I'm beginning to get the premise of this movie...

Take corny, vaguely talented sci-fi veteran Will Smith, give him a book of bad one-liners to say, place him in front of a green screen, and animate thousands of generally identical robots around him that he has to "fight" and such.

Escuse me if I'm wrong, as I have not seen the movie, but it does look pretty dreadful.

yes but this is the case with most sci-fi books... they contain great philosophical and historical premises, and holywood rapes the original story and idea, creating a shadow, nay an empty shell of its original subject material...

but the movie really isn't THAT bad... if you want, rent it when it comes out... just be sure to set your brain to sizzle... oh and don't try to download it on Kazaa... goofy, bootlegging bastard
