Legacy of Kain: Possible reboot on the horizon?
Recently I discovered some dusty copies of Blood Omen and Soul Reaver hiding in the maelstrom of my "random computer shit" drawer and have been enjoying both games on my PS3. Curious as to how much the sequels were going for, I turned to trusted source the interwebs only to discover this very delightful and very recent rumor.
Granted that a random individual claiming to have taken a survey regarding the title of a future LoK game is hardly solid evidence, it certainly seems plausible. Despite the absence of some of the key series creative contributors, I'd like to think that a LoK sequel (or even a reboot) could be done well.
Anyone else a fan of this series?
If the series did return, would you rather it continue on from Defiance or take place as a reboot?
What about the playable protagonists (Kain, Raziel, or both like in Defiance)?

FUCK! NO!
The story had closure with Defiance, and Tony Jay is dead. The sequel called Dark Revelation or somesuch. They scrapped it.
Fanboyism aside for the only video game story considerable for art, it will not invalidate the original story, and if the original team is mostly intact for this, it might even come off as good. Very high standards to pass, but a reboot would come as velcome since the LoK games had mostly awkward controls.
The story? And the acting? Hoo boy, Duke Nukem Forever had EASIER EXPECTATIONS. Again, since Tony Jay is dead....

I loved those games but as chrome said Tony Jay is dead.
Without the voice of God it is impossible to reboot this game.
Besides, I thought Michael Bell didn't want to do Raziel's voice anymore. Defiance was the last and final game of this glorious series... We don't need more of these games coming around.
Edios made this game, and look what happened to the last game that got its hands on an Edios game... two reboots of Tomb Raider.
No, this game doesn't need to be restarted at all. It's over with, it was a great series and still is, we don't need people to suddenly start reprising vampire games because it's the "in" thing as of lately. I have a fear that someone might consider putting Twilight shit in it or something. This is literally the only reason why I still think vampires are cool... I don't want some scrummy little writer thinking it's cool to suddenly change things in this or start adding things in here that doesn't need to be in here all because vampires and warewolves are so cool as of lately.
Please, just... no.

I love the Legacy of Kain series. I honestly would love more...
... But the realist in me knows that Tony Jay is dead, Michael Bell is not interested in reprising his role as Raziel, and the last game had some closure.... (though I do want more...)
If they kept the original audio and revamped the graphics and controls a'la Resident Evil for Gamecube, I'd be thrilled beyond belief.

I find it ironic that, on the heels of a successful reboot of Mortal Kombat (a twenty year old series) you all are so quick to dismiss the prospect of a similar treatment to the Legacy of Kain series. Citing Tony Jay's passing (may he rest in peace) as some insurmountable obstacle is simply niave. I would think a larger setback would be the absence of writer/director Amy Hennig (who went on to work on the Uncharted series).
Regardless, there's a multitude of creative factors that influence the development of a game. As long as a new team would approach the series with talent, diligence, and passion for the series l don't think it's unreasonable to think a new LoK game could be incredible. Just look what happened with Mortal Kombat.

Exactly why I do not want it. Especially if they want to reiterate everything as seen before, which would be an exercise in futility. And unlike MK LoK wasn't a joke, and had no real problems.
Another storyline set in the very same world would be welcome, not to mention the only thing left open by the series was that Kain was less insane and was capable of fulfilling the role of Scion of Balance. He still had some stuff to finish with the Elder God. If so...
Raziel is out of the picture, the moment he allowed himself to enter the Reaver he condemned himself to be the sword forever and go insane with hunger...you know, to be the Soul Reaver for Kain.
I think the team that made the game is just too far gone. It would be like the new Silent Hill games or Chrono Trigger. The original teams disbanded long ago. They've all split up and gone their separate ways. The only way a new game would happen is if a new team made it and somehow approach it with the same passion the original creators have. And that doesn't always happen. It rarely happens.

It's not so much about the people who made this game possible being missing or dead, it's the issue that nine times out of ten, when a new company gets their hands on a great series, they seem to make it completely different than what it was.
I mean, look at Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro... Great games, new developers, shitty games!
Plus, they would have to do something probably starting from scratch if they were to ever bring this game back to life.
In my opinion, I would greatly appreciate it if this series never gets touched by someone new just for the sake of that we need a LoK series in the current generation... I honestly wouldn't see what kind of approach they would take it other than starting from scratch or doing something with Kain in a way we haven't seen... Cuz I doubt Bell would want to do any voices with Raziel anymore.
