i have mame32 but have been reading about other emulators such as neo-geo. Im not asking where to get them, just curious as to whether they are worth downloading, and is the software for them actually any good compared to mame. hope this thread is legit.

MAME supports Neo Geo emulation, but there are several that are more dedicated, such as NeoRage (Neo Geo only), Kawaks and Nebula (both Neo Geo and Capcom CPS2 emulators).

You can probably expect stand-alone emulators to run better on slower systems, since the purpose of those emulators isn't accuracy (as is MAME's goal), but playability. It's why MAME runs games like Killer Instinct very slowly even on higher PC's, but the stand alone emulator (developed by someone else), runs fine on slower systems. It's because MAME accurately emulates the KI hardware, making it slow like it's supposed to be on a PC, but the stand-alone uses hacks and techniques so that it's playable fully. If you get a stand-alone Neo-Geo emulator, you can expect the same treatment.

Ok, you're right, they have gotten it significantly faster. I get about half speed without sound compared to just getting 1 FPS when they started with it.

And yes, War Gods runs like crap.
