ok its not a question about love per se but i was thinking:
what do you guys think is it better to like a person who is just like you (have A LOT of things in common) or someone is your opposite?

I think a mix of similarities and differences is best. I wouldn't want to date someone who I have nothing in common with, but I also don't want a carbon copy of myself.

I find that i used to be more attracted to females completely unlike me. To put it into one word...Slut.
Now that I have personally finished my "checklist" so to speak. I find the most attractive women to be the ones similar to me. The twisted personality in an artsy way, really abstract and metaphorical look on reality. And quiet.
Its natural to want the things different from you, but in the end, everybody has a little bit of everything. A healthy balance as a couple is the most important thing. You should never have to change as a person. Ever.

I will be a woman's prince charming as long as she will be my insatiable whore.

All boils down to chemistry, buddy. My gf and I have a LOT in common, but I've seen opposites work. All depends on the feel you get when you're around that person, ya know?
One of the pillars supporting almost any lasting relationship is the sharing of common core values, i.e. values you hold in high regard, whether consciously or not (e.g. moral values, political values, personal values, etc). Values out in the periphery ("She likes chocolate cake, but I'm a vanilla man") nobody really gives a shit about, which is the way it should be. I've seen opposites attempt relationships with one another, but it always ends badly. Not one exception that I've witnessed.

The common things to look for that need to be spot on in my opinion:
-Religion or lack there of
-Political beliefs
-Intelligence How smart are you? are you satisfied with how smart or not, your partner is. (often goes hand-to-hand religion and political beliefs).
-Gun control policy
-Pro life or pro Choice
everything else can and probably should be a mixed bag.

The keys to being a success:
Males - Don't be a douchebag.
Females - Don't be a total bitch.
Both - Have fucking integrity and be honest.

Common enough that you can get along with that person and also have things you can do with one another for fun. I wouldn't worry about looking for someone that's too similar because I don't believe that really exists. People are individuals, it'd be nearly impossible to find someone who's a carbon copy of yourself.
My wife is very similar to me. At the same time, she's very different from me. Sometimes we don't get along. Sometimes we get along perfectly.
Examples:
I love my cooking. She also likes my cooking.
She doesn't like her cooking and neither do I.
I use Apple computers exclusively and she doesn't care either way.
She tends to become a 'shipper when we watch something that has any amount of character interaction, whereas I try not to get emotionally invested in the relationships of fictional characters. As a result, a show or movie can be ruined for her completely if her "ship" doesn't work out. For me, a show or movie (or game) can only be ruined by being terrible.
She doesn't like my mother and I'm not a big fan of hers.
She hates cleaning out the catbox and I don't mind.
She loves the dog unconditionally while I have, on occasion, wanted to throw him out the window. Of a fast moving vehicle. Over a cliff.
I have a weakness for bad movies. She has a knack for picking bad movies.
She has a sense of humour that is almost entirely grounded in avoiding cruelty. Cruelty in humour is one of my specialties.
She likes to smoke. I quit smoking when I started coughing more than a reasonable amount of time.
She likes to smoke weed on occasion. I do not.
She likes to drink alcohol on occasion. I do not.
I like to read Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams books. She enjoys the works of Lucy Maude Montgomery and Jane Austen.
We both like Final Fantasy games, but she prefers the NES era (and FFIX) while I prefer FFX.
I play violent video games such as Mortal Kombat. She cannot stand violence in video games. She won't even play Saints Row 2, where I even made a save that is starring her. I like to play that save, though.
She likes to play female characters in games mostly and occasionally male. I like to play female characters in games almost exclusively.
She has borderline personality disorder. I have borderline personality disorder.
I occasionally watch professional wrestling and play professional wrestling themed games. She doesn't like sports whether they're real or not.
She despises the humour style of Seth MacFarlane while I still watch his shows for the extremely occasional bit of humour.
She doesn't like Stephen Colbert, though I love him.
She likes South Park but wishes they would rely on gross out humour less. I love South Park and wish they would rely on gross out humour less.
If we're watching a show and she doesn't like a character, she will no longer watch the show. If I'm watching a show and don't like a character I do my best to ignore them. She has, however, made an exception for How I Met Your Mother.
She thinks everything that she likes is awful and should be ashamed of publicly admitting to liking it. I think everything I like is awesome and other people can suck it if they don't.
She's a non-practicing Christian. I'm an evangelical atheist.
She has long, curly red hair (currently, it's normally light brown). I have short, straight black hair.
We both have hazel eyes.
Before Cataclysm, I had 6 characters at the level cap in World of Warcraft (Paladin, Hunter, Druid, Mage and 2 Death Knights). Her highest level character was a level 31 Warrior. I don't play WoW anymore though and my highest level character is only 81.
She likes to spend money recklessly and hope I don't notice. I like to spend money recklessly and actively hide the evidence.
We both play our DSs or use our laptops whenever we're watching TV together. Lately, we've been using my laptop to watch TV on so I've been putting in more DS hours.
We both love our two cats and consider ourselves cat people. I like my dog on occasion and no longer consider myself a dog person.
Neither one of us like to leave the house.
I could happily subsist on one meal over and over for the rest of my life but she likes variety. Subsequently, my cooking repertoire has exploded since our marriage.
She is very easily tainted by the fanbase to something she likes. Like me, she cannot understand or tolerate differing opinion. Which is why I just shut up whenever we disagree about something. As a result the list of things we're no longer allowed to talk about is quite extensive.
So there you have it. Eleven years together, in spite of and because of all these things and more.

I think it should be a mix of both. It's nice to have things in common, that way you have lots of things to talk about. Also is nice when they're opposite from you, that way you learn about new things; and if you're flexible, you might end up liking things you didn't like before..

You Know Bezou, I do miss your comics with Shao Kahn beating the crap out of people in the background while the comic is happening up front. Twisted humor is the best.
