As you all may recall, awhile back the film rights to Metroid were bought up, but the rights were eventually lost due to the fact that no action was taken with them. But now this has come up...

"The film rights to Nintendo's Metroid series have been optioned in the past, as recently as January 2003 by Warren Zide and Craig Perry of Zide/Perry Entertainment.
According to The Hollyword Reporter, however, John Woo, is the newest individual from Hollywood to option the Metroid rights and isn't messing around.
"We are very fortunate that there is such an extensive amount of material to draw upon for the film due to there being so many iterations of the game over the years," Woo told the publication.

Woo, alongside Terence Chang and Brad Foxhoven, will produce the project. Woo also has the option to direct the film, currently scheduled for a 2006 release.

"We have to assume the mainstream audience is unfamiliar with the property," Foxhoven said. "As for the rest of the film, we will stay true to the game and have Samus battling the Metroids and Mother Brain in a fight for control of the galaxy." "
