Mortal Kombat Returns to Film in Wreck-It Ralph (yey!)
Hitting theaters this November is the 3D adventure film Wreck-It Ralph starring John C. Reilly, and the film hosts cameos of several memorable video game characters, such as Bowser from the Mario series, M. Bison from Street Fighter, and the speed master himself, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Included in the large cast of VG icons are Mortal Kombat veterans Kano and Smoke, who are two members of the villain rehabilitation group, Bad-Anonymous. So far confirmed, only Kano has lines in the film, but Smoke appears to be sporting his MK2011 alt, so I'm sold.
The film hits theaters November 2. Go support our evildoers and go see it!

I don't think that's Smoke. I think he is just repersenting generic ninjas altogether. I could be wrong, but that zombie is definitely from House of the Dead.

Right you are, the zombie is from House of the Dead.
I checked the casting list to make sure these characters were authentic, and thank goodness they all are.
There are apparently many Street Fighter characters in this film, including Ken, Ryu, and Chun-Li.

I'm glad they are making this movie as authentic as possible. Though personally, I would've loved to have seen Kratos. I know he's not a classic character, but since he's an anti-hero I think he would've had an interesting interaction with Wreck-It Ralph.

I don't think the Kano and Smoke are licensed in the same way Bowser etc are, I think there just alluding towards Kano and the ninja is just a generic ninja.

This looks awesome. It's a big spoof on video games and it doesn't hurt that they got actual game licensed characters for the movie as well. From what I've seen so far: Bowser, Dr. Robotnik, M. Bison, Zangeif, Chun Li, zombie from House of the Dead, Clyde from Pac-man, qbert, Kano, Smoke, sunshine token from Super Mario Sunshine are all in. There is also spoof character based on FPS stereotypes as well, such as metriod, cod and gears of war.
I'm afraid I will have to burst your bubble as there are two threads of the movie already and with the current evidence – Mortal Kombat or its characters will not appear in Wreck-It Ralph at all. All the same, yey.

Warner Bros. is the biggest rival of Disney out there so it makes only sense that those characters aren't distinctly Kano or Smoke. As far as I'm concerned there's no other pre-existing character in the media for the cyber-eyed guy but Kano who is kind of a harmless, iconic and identifiable villain of MK and had just been in Batman: Arkham City Lockdown too.
The protagonist seems to share the story and some attributes of Donkey Kong who began as a villain wrecking things but who later on became a lovable icon as a good guy. His name makes me think of Ralph from The Simpsons, an unintentionally comical character. I'll look forward to this.

The ninja has got traits of an MK ninja like the skin tight hood, shin guards and the unclothed arms but he's got enough traits of just any ninja like the generic veil, forearm guards and the color that just happens to be the same that Smoke has because chances are that MK would have a ninja of the equivalent colors anyway. Nevertheless, he can't be Human Smoke for the reasons that Smoke is reputed of being a good guy, he doesn't even emit smoke in the trailer and most importantly Smoke is WB's property.
It seems plausible that the ninja is a nod to all the ninjas of MK (and other games) while being different enough not to be considered anyone pre-existing. The Kano guy isn't Kano but strongly inspired by Kano clearly. The protagonist seems to share the story and some attributes of Donkey Kong who began as a villain wrecking things but who later on became a lovable icon as a good guy. I'll see to your post, the two are big rivals.
However, I find it counterproductive for so many authentic characters to make an appearance, only to include a few generics.
I guess we must wait...

Also the ninja reminds me of Noobs "human" alt in MKD more than anything.

That is indeed a "Kano" type of character in the film. They probably changed a bit (one Jax arm), because parents are so sensitive to Mortal Kombat. As for the ninja, that's a generic MK ninja. Not Smoke, not Noob, just a ninja from MK.
All in all I'M GONNA WRECK IT!!! I'm excited about this movie. Looks like it will be Toy Story, but for games.

Personally, I never thought of Kano. The face-plate red-eye and robotic arm reminded me of Dr. X from Action Man (the one that showed on Fox Kids years back). He even has facial hair just like him.
But Dr. X is a toy villain, not videogame. I google-imaged him and found out his robotic arm is (usually) his left, not his right.
