I opened this thread to discuss the unusally active severe weather that we've seen thus far this year (which isn't even half over!) From the terrible winter storms, to the earthquake in Japan, to all the tornadoes that have been ripping apart cities, what are your thoughts on all these recent events? My thoughts: While the planet is getting hotter, our population is increasing, and thus the likelihood of encountering a tornado (or any other natural disaster) is increasing. Also, we have better resources for knowing when an event has occured. I am fascinated by storms, I always have been since I was a child, but I have a healthy respect for them. I don't want to see death and destruction, but I want to gain a better understanding of the hows and whys of storms. When we better understand them, hopefully we'll be able to better predict them (not that a lot of people take tornado warnings seriously, anyway.) Today (June 1) marks the start of the tornado season where I live, and I am beginning to dread it. We don't usually get big tornadoes, and the few we get usually are small. The operative word being "usually"... Ok, sorry for the sort of rambling post. Discuss amongst yourselves.

Only humans are to blame for this. Our Mother is simply maintaining balance.

There are no more earthquakes than in the past. Weather based problems getting worse though and its our fault. After we burn all fossil fuels we are looking at 50,000 years of crappy weather due to what we did before everything normalizes again.
Or we could FIX IT....but as long as the all mighty dollar is winning the war that wont be happening.

Um. Excuse me. Have some fucking tolerance. I will continue to worship my religion about Mother Earth's bleeding vagina, thank you very much.

That is not exactly how it works.
Two other things: people amintain to say that "mother nature" maintains balance. It does not. There is no equilibrium in the universe and should not be in the first place. Stephen Hawkings said it perfectly, that a perfect balanced universe would put probability under the bed, and our world thrives on the improbable.
Second. No conservation of resources. And what really appalls me is Christian America. Most (more than 50%) believe that the coming of Jesus is nigh and that somehow everything will turn out to be all right. It will not. It is quite arrogant to claim so in the first place, and is basically a big fuck you to the potential next generation.
But as long as you are having idiots who honestly deny evolutionary events and are hardass creationists word-to-word, it will not change. Denying scientific data is on par with denying the holocaust, and should be punishable, religious tolerance or not.
There should not be any tolerance towards stupid. At all.
