Never thought Id EVER make this thread. I just felt it necessary. Ive played and daddled with SF before and even dominated all of my friends in local tournaments. But I never ever payed enough attention to dive deep into the gameplay, until yesterday.

Got a brand new copy of SSF4 trying to prepare myself for MK, ive already pretty much got Tekken downpat as ive been with it since the first game and Soul Calibur is coming along very well id say Im pretty good.

the final step I always steered clear from (I dont know why) is Street Fighter.

So just for the hell of it, After palying a bit of a few modes and online "Endless battle", I decided to hit the Combo CHallanges. With Ryu First because its a good generic approach, and then onto C.Viper whos the only character that really appeals to be other than Akuma and Gen, But Gen seems a bit too difficult for me at this point.

Part of me is still wondering whether or not an Arcade Stick is better suited for this game. There isnt much time to overlay inputs and it really seems to run on precision and reaction (which I surprisingly like although its hard to get used to after playing MK and Tekken for years). I like being challenged with timed inputs but its not often I ever have trouble.

I made it well into the second half of both their lists of 24 before calling it quits because I was tired as hell.

Some of the Command list symbols (even with the description) are kinda shady aswell. I wish there was a theatre option where it would show you the kombo when done correctly.

Regardless, I just felt the need to express my newfound respect for this game. I Always had sort of a "maybe one day" approach when it came to SF, and now i am determined to get as good as I can.

Anybody who wants to become better at fighting games, Deffinately pick this up.

If you liked the most boring installment of the series that much, then you would've fell in love with the earlier ones.wink

Ya Street Fighter is pretty awesome. 2D fighters are generally better than 3D fighters (flame shield on!)

Street Fighter IV? The most boring street fighter!? Blargh! Only Street Fighter III might be better.

I love, love, love SSF4. I really have nothing but good things to say about it. It's ridiculously balanced, there's so many stylistic approaches you can take with each character, and it gets surprisingly complex at high-level play.

Stick vs. Pad? Definitely stick. FADCing is such a pain in the ass with a pad. Unfortunately, I know all too well. For all the praise I give sticks, I don't actually own one. I have to use my friend's when I play at his place. I also have a 360, and dashing with the analog stick is beyond frustrating (but before PS3 chimers jump in, I want to stress that the 360 analog stick is better for virtually everything else compared to the sony d-pad).

Basically, I do all my playing with the analog stick but do all my dashing with the 360 d-pad. It's annoying, but you get use to it.

Well, this is going off of SF4 and SSF4 to some extent, but here are just some of my problems with it: It's dreadfully slow, the ability to combo into Ultras were (and still is to a lesser degree) way too important to viability; really, Ultras in general were just a very poorly designed comeback mechanic with awful players in mind. Then there's the huge reversal window, irritating auto correct, and all the painfully stupid nerfs watering everything down into a snooze fest.

Really, I do think SF4 is a good game, but it's only just "good". It's nothing to write home about.

eh, to each his own I guess. I like the slow and steady approach of Street Fighter IV. And if you're good you shouldn't worry about scrubs coming back with a random ultra.

Well, my criticisms aren't a matter of scrubs coming back with a random ultra in vanilla; it's a matter of rendering those without the ability to combo into Ultra gimped, while those who could, didn't really contribute anything that deep to the game that could excuse the inclusion of such a shabbily designed mechanic. It had potential to get a lot better with the changes in SSF4, but after what they've done with something like Rose's U2 in AE, I can't help but stand by my earlier statements.

I am in love with Street Fighter and own both SFIV and SSFIV.
I main Blanka and Akuma and second with Ibuki and Rose.

What I like most about this series is the variety of character styles. There are pure combo characters, grab characters, charge characters, and even within those styles you can introduce your own original take on tactics.

The input commands confused the crap out of me when I first started, but I got used to it after a short time. The one that especially had me thumped for the longest time was the lower diagonal --> opposite angle --> opposite higher angle inputs, such as what you see for Guile's flash kick or his ultra.

Everything's just second nature to me now. Here's a tip for linking combos: hit the last input in the next move just as the previous move finishes. Standard attacks require waiting for one move to finish after the next one starts, but you can cancel standards with specials, and you can cancel specials with the super. FADC is also extremely important in most combos, especially with Akuma.

And I'm sort of confused when people say this game is slow. Lolwut?
In peak gameplay it's almost hard to keep up, although admittedly nothing compared to the craziness that is MVC.

But the Street Fighter series does have one major flaw, and that's its community. What a bunch of arrogant worthnothings. Seriously. Killjoys and elitists, the lot of them.

<3
But the game is great.
Competitive play is great.
Community is not.

Blakuma for lifeeeeeee.
Ibukose for...death?

No, I mean Street Fighter Alpha 3. Arcana Heart would be short handed as AH, but that doesn't matter because it's terrible.

It's not much compared to A3 or ST either. Sure, like any other fighting game high level shit gets pretty manic, but it's still slower than older titles or other Capcom FGs. Fine game and all; just not what I'd have preferred.

Sorry about that. I'd say Alpha 3 and Third Strike are about even though I prefer TS.

My list:

1 Third Strike
2 Alpha 3
3 SSF2T
4 SSF4
5 Final Fight tongue

To be honest, I never even played any classic SF save for SSF2 and that was recently. Was too occupied with MK and it never really appealed to me. At any time, there was no statement by me that puts any previous game down if you'd open your eyes for a second. Why wouldn't I start with a new installment?

In a close referrence to somebody on this site...

"Wait, so basically you" make your own biased judgments of people complimenting something you clearly like by conjuring up a situation they were never put in aswell as facts (that never happened) which makes them appear to not be looking at the picture the same way your even more biased fanboy eyes seem to. Okay.....................

I just complimented SF, and your gonna pull this shit? Post when you become an adult.

but.....but that's not even the good Alpha game!

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
There are no good Alpha games

Third Strike is like the perfect fighting game! Besides parries making projectiles useless and a rather bland roster, its basically fighting game chocolate.
