End of EVA (the Evangelion movie, an alternative ending)is an awesome movie. It's so sad, violent and epic, yet beautiful and just...overwhelming!! I mean, was the apocalypse ever portrayed more dramatic than in this movie?
I love Evangelion, every second of it is great. The only thing that's a little stupid is that the series' ending (the original, more or less happy end) is so damn hard to understand, while the alternative ending (End of EVA, the movie I already talked about) explains almost everything.
So why the hell did they make the ALTERNATIVE ending easier to understand than the original one?
Eh whatever, EVA is still great. The best Anime by far. Oh, and Asuka is -and will always be- my favorite character.

the year A.D. 2015, a time in which the world is recovering from the melting of the Antarctic Polar Ice Cap--the planetwide catastrophe known as "Second Impact". Entities called "Angels" suddenly strike "Tokyo-3", a specially planned city under construction in the Hakone area. Their true identities and objectives are unknown. What is known is that they are challenging mankind to battle with an array of configurations and unusual powers.
Mankind's only means of fighting back against these mysterious foes, the "Angels", is the "Multi-Purpose Humanoid Fighting Machine, EVANGELION". Ikari Shinji, the series's main character, is one of three young people chosen by NERV, a special agency directly attached to the United Nations, to be operators of EVANGELION. (Translator's note: according to Anno, "nerv" is the German word for "nerve".--Yamada) The battle which will determine mankind's fate has begun. What, in fact, are the "Angels"? What fate lies in store for these young people, and for mankind as a whole? Powerful action scenes. A thrilling story, with mysteries on top of mysteries. The troubles, conflicts, and emotional maturation, of young men and women. Dynamic developments. It all adds up to a hard-hitting anime drama.

I read somewhere that they were going to make it into a live action movie. Anyone know about this?

Yeah, I've heard of it. It seems that WETA is running the show. They have all these concept arts on a site and everything.
The best thing: They bastardized the characters' names, so they sound American. Asuka will be played by Hilary Duff (I swear, it better not be true), Shinji will be played by Daniel Radcliffe (Stick to Harry Potter, plz), and Kaoru will be played by Haley Joel Osment (Their attitudes do not match whatsoever. omfg...)
Anyway, there's my rant. If you want more info, PM me, and I'll give you the link, seeing as I can't post links (Advertising).

Alright, I know I won't be able to say a thing about Neon without taking and giving heat, but here's my two cents:
Neon Genesis Evangelion certainly is a good series, but it's a series fueled by characters, and not necessarily a coherent plot, which may or may not be a good thing in your book. I, myself, would like good characters AND a good plot, much like the Record of Lodoss series (being biased, here, as it's my fave) or even a few Gundam series (G and Wing excluded.)
However, Evangelion was not made to be a great story, but more of a symbolic expedition for the creators, and as such, it's more of a Picaso than a Van Gough, forgoing sense in order for thisthingisdisabled, and it's a masterpiece at that, and truly one of the golden animes of our time.
My problems with the series simply lie in my discontent with the direction towards the end. It's a series that's hard to enjoy, and it makes you work to enjoy and figure it out (you wouldn't believe the hours of research I did to try and find out what everything means... and don't even get me started on everything that goes on in the movie.) Also, almost none of the characters were characters I could sympathize with, and while some may argue that they're supposed to be "human" and prone to error, I find it hard to believe that the average person is so full of error, angst, and mental instability. It's the equivalent of a long-run drug high, making little to no sense, or perfect sense, depending on who you are.
As such, I think it's an anime impossible to review. I think it's special, a testiment to the animation world, but I find it much over-hyped than anything else.
Fatality.
