While the entire 'crime rate' might not have dropped, violent attacks with automatic guns have gone down every year since this law was introduced, so mission accomplished.

its a simple formula, law abiding citizens buys a gun, criminal breaks into house, gets shot, stops breaking into houses thuse decreasing the crime rate

also, if the guns where banned, then why did the criminals using the guns obtain them?

I fail to see any reason for normal citizens to be poseessing automatic weapons.Handguns and hunting rifles are one thing, but this heavy artillery crap is stupid.

Yesterday I saw a report in the TV. Statistically one every American comes a weapon. there were sold about 350mio. weapons in the past!!!! But for what??? I mean criminality isn't that high that everybody needs a weapon?

I disagree bro.. here in the states most crimes are comitted with Guns that are not legally registered, or registered to another individual. These Gun laws do very little to prevent violent crimes. As far as the terrorist argument, you can still get these arms very easily.. the ban was not on the weapons themselves.. but on large ammo clips, high calibur loads, and some other junk. Really if this law goes or stays it's irrevelvant. The law abiding citizen is not going to comitte a crime, however a criminal would care less if the law was there or not, if they want' their peice they will just get it.

Also Guns don't really kill people it's the people who use them... but it does make it easier in alot of instances. Also if you say that no one should have guns.. ther eis still gonna be a ass load of illegal guns that are out there that "irrisponsible users" would have acess to.

Instead of focusing energy on new gun laws, we need to enforce and make use of laws allready in exsistence.

While I agree nobody really needs an AK-47, or an Uzi they are not fully automatic weapons, all weapons sold to the public are Semi-automatic, or single actions. Granted you can get the parts necessary to make them fully automatic(although illegal), but chances are if your doing that you have something pretty sinister up your sleeve, unfortunatly.

yeah I saw that... with mr. bush I meant his goverment (the Republicans)... so whats next? permit C-Weapons? I think you're wrong to say that they would smuggle them. in the report there was a man who lost his son in 1993. His son was shot by a boy, who bought the weapon legally in a gunshop at the same day.

Dont' be so bold in your statments, fundementally I agree with you, but you really need to scope out the whole issue.... Automatic weapons are still NOT legal even without the ban. The weapons themselves are not fully automatic, but semi. IM not saying it's a good idea to have high powered and squad bassed weaponry out on the streets, but there are actually handguns, and single shot rifles that are more powerful/lethal than SOME of these weapons. The real problem is our (US) lack of inforcement on current gun laws.

Also this isn't really George W's or the republican agenda in general, it's a combination of the presidency, congress, and the constituants, that are preventing these laws from being adressed.

No big deal you can still get them on the streets.

Anyways, I think the whole world should get rid of guns. Until that happens, everyone should have the right to own one. A gun is a gun, no matter who has it. So the DANGER is always there, check out the newspaper and news and you'll see even "law biting citizens" kill people. Don't forget that most serial killers are white males in between the ages of their 30s and 40s(In the U.S. anyway).
