I took it upon myself to begin a new wwe thread made to only focus on one thing, wrestling history. Wrestling depicted some of the greatest moments in sports entertainment from the legendary battles between bret hart and shawn michaels to the once ongoing epic rivalry between stone cold and the rock. Nowadays, WWE is at an all time low as the ratings drastically drop each week. Forget about today's history and talk about yesterday. Here you will be able to talk about your favorite wrestling moments and matches. Whether it's from the first generation of superstars or the newly established era of "entertainment", let's discuss wrestling history and forever engrave these legendary moments straight into the record books of this thread.

I think the greatest wrestling moment of all time was when The Rock challenged Hollywood Hogan to a match at Wrestlemania X8 on RAW. The two have never met in the same ring, eye to eye... ever!!! The two icons of professional wrestling's past and future met for the first time in history. It was an exciting showdown as the mixed crowd chanted both their names. It just absolutely brought goosebumps as soon as hogan accepted. And at wrestlemania X8 it was very exciting to see that no matter how much fame you have nowadays with the younger fans, any wrestling fan will tell you that there is no better than Hollywood Hulk Hogan, not even The Rock. The crowd just booed the rock constantly and cheered on hogan everytime he layed a smack on the rock. And that's that Hogan played the role of the "bad guy" in this match. It was an exciting moment in wrestling history to see the two absolute best this sport had to offer go head to head. Although Hogan lost, it was my all time favorite. The Rock and Hulk Hogan fought once again the very next year at WWE's No Way Out 2003.

If that was the best moment in wrestling history then I've wasted the last 20 years of my life watching it.

It was good for Hogan, I admit. It should have ended differently. Rock should have NEVER beat Hogan.

If you want some of the best moments in wrestling look back to Hogan slamming Andre the Giant, the Flair-Steamboat wars, Benoit vs. Bret Hart (the Owen Hart memorial match) Benoit vs. Regal at the Brian Pillman memorial show (I hope that match makes it onto dvd at some time or another), Owen vs. Bret at Wrestlemania X.... there's alot of great moments in wrestling.

Wrestling today has gone so far downhill that it's pathetic. They don't know how to build great rivalries anymore and the rivalries they do establish now are nothing compared to the way they used to be.

I'm not saying your oppinion is wrong. That's yours and you have every right to it. I guess I just miss things the way they used to be.

Well... I suppose it is logical to have a seperate thread 'ONLY' devoted to wrestling history, so I don't see a problem with it. However, change the subject name to something like "The History of Wrestling Thread". This way not only WWE, but NWA, WCW, AJPW and other frderations are covered.

Now to yyour choice. ROFLOL! While it was a semi decent match, I can't say that it was great enought to consider it historic, maybe inevitable, but not great. Consider that WWE still had b.s. writers and simply brout in the NWO to boost ratings. Plus, the match didn't mean anything significant. With the state of affaris at that time, it was simply a quickly thrown together dream match that didn't feel historic.

I can't give you my opinion on the greatest moment in wrestling, history cause there have been so many. I think that one is the Ironman Match, btw Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart was legendary and still is.

Another would be a forgotten match that began extreme matches and that's the Scaffold Match in Starcade '86, when the Rock and Roll Express wrestled the Midnight Express on top a 50 ft Scaffold.

No doubt about that BigCen. Hogan slamming andre was a great moment, if not THE MOMENT. But this thread is based on wrestling history and such. Just because I posted The Rock vs. Hogan as my favorite all time moment doesn't necessarily mean it's my one and only. There are plenty on my list.

*hogan slamming andre at wrestlemania III
*warrior unifying the world and ic titles at wrestlemania VI.
*razor ramon vs. shawn michaels in the very first ladder match at wrestlemania X for the ic title.
*bret hart vs. shawn michaels in the very first iron man match at wrestlemania XII for the world title.
*goldberg defeating hollywood hogan back in the summer of '98 on a nitro telecast for the world title.

and so on. This thread was made to post various events in the history of this great sport, not just personal favorites or opinions. More like a "do you remember when..." type of thing.

oh, and ghostdragon, the fact is, whether it was WWF, WCW, NWA, or EC F'N W, history has been made in sports entertainment throughout the world. WWE is just the heart of wrestling so when i say "WWE", i mean wrestling as a whole.

While true as that is, it's nore appropriate to simply make it the 'history of wrestling' since Vince has the WWE name locked down and 9 times out of 10 someone happening upon the thread will just assume that it only pertains to WWE/WWF history and not even think about NWA, WCW or any others.

Hogan vs Rock was indeed a great moment... but it was more hype than anything

if you actually watched the match, Hogan's ring-rust is obvious and, let's face it, Hulk was never that great of an athlete in the first place... and, he's old

why do you suppose they had the whole storyline with Rock being attacked and put in 'critical condition' (yet he's able to come back a week later?)... to make it seem as if Hogan had a chance at all, and give The Rock a reason to come down to Hogan's level in the ring.

as far as in-ring elements go, it was a poor match, and I've already stated my stance on it losing its legendary status when:

1) they had a rematch with worse build up and worse wrestling than the first
2) they were both 'fed' to Brock Lesnar *bleh*

just one more thing...

I disagree on WWE/WWF being the heart of wrestling... certainly it is the most known, and currently the only HUGE company left (but seeing as this thread is about history, shouldn't the old groups, pre-extinction be included?) World Wrestling Entertainment is not, however, the heart of wrestling

barely anybody in that company calls it 'wrestling' anymore... it's 'sports-entertainment'

in my opinion, if the WWE is the heart of wrestling, than wrestling has long been dead.
I believe, the heart of any wrestling promotion/company/group is the fans... without them, obviously, it would die.
