So new 4k ultra hd TV is set to make its mark next year, it's already begun actually. This is 4x of 1080p. Next gen consoles don't have this support yet, it only has up to 1080p. How is that gonna affect future gaming?

Personally, I don't think that graphics really make or break a game. I've always been more focused on how fun a game is, not really how it looks... I mean, I'll be honest, CoD on the Wii looks atrocious compared to the XBox360 versions, but it's also the gameplay that made me shy away from it (and made me glad my friend bought it before I did so that I could try it out).
When I see some of the HD gaming videos from last gen, my jaw still drops with how awesome they look, but I'll wait and see if these improved graphics and things will lead to superior play over the previous and current gen consoles once a console is able to support this new 4x 1080p thing.

4K isn't really a huge difference from 1080p what I've read. The human eye can't discern any resolution higher than 1080p and the only real benefit to the technology is when do passive 3d.

Plus outside of specially remaster "4k" movies there isn't any brodcasts that are done naively in 4k, hell most aren't even done in 1080p. The only instance where 4 is really going to make any kind of difference is if you're using a huge tv screen and according to this. You don't get the full benefit of 4k resolution unless you're using a tv with a screen bigger than 140 inches.

Cnet - Why 4k is stupid.

What is 4k

There are a ton more articles that i could dig up as well. It's really just a fad, like 3d.

Well, these articles are pretty informative, thank you for them! So, to make a long story short, 4K in the home is a marketing gimmick that can only be taken advantage of by people with an actual theatre in their homes... Yeah, can't see how this'll change the game industry unless we all start playing games in abandoned cinemas. tongue

Nintendo is comprised of three Japanese words. Nin, Ten, Dou, and when combined it means we kicked the holy shit outta Atari.

It's definitely discernible but there are diminishing returns, especially on smaller screen sizes. I don't know what the max "resolution" of the human eye is but I don't think we're anywhere near it yet.

I should also probably add that the HDMI cable that is included with the Xbox One is 4K rated, according to Microsoft. So whether that means they plan to add 4K support down the road, whether it's upscale or native (highly unlikely about being native), but the possibility is there. It's just not an option at launch, like a lot of things for either console.
