For the past like 15 years ive always been a Madden fan, but this year might be different...lets look at the most important difference...

Madden:$60
NFL 2k5=$20

early indications from VG mags say this may be the year Madden is beat!!What do you guys think??

I've alwaze been an NFL2K fan (or ESPN now I guess), just because I'm one of those die-hard Sega zealots

but the last couple of years I converted to Madden, and have to say it was better than NFL2K (damnit, i'm just gonna call it that, lol) in those 2 years of comparison

but NFL2K5 looks like it'll win me back... the presentation, celeb involvement, graphics, the control (which I always preferred over Madden, don't ask why, I don't know) and ESPN... plus the $20 price tag? sheesh, I'll buy both *btw, Madden is only $60 if you get the special edition*

i think that's Sega's (or is it a diff company now? i thought I heard they sold publishing rights) big marketing ploy... the past 2Ks have been excellent, but mostly ignored because Madden has always dominated, and most people will skip right over the competition... sadly this is the way with most EA sports games, even though I think there's a superior, non-EA game for each sport except maybe boxing and football

The shocking price-tag will definitely get people's attention. Madden's loyal legion won't be won over or wrestled away, so if they cut the price so drastically that a consumer buys both, there's the potential they may like it better, and thus are converted

EDIT: and NBA2K ownz all

Madden hands down.

EA makes the best sports sims, and sports arcade games, imo.

Madden will own NFL2K5. Trust me, price doesn't mean anything around here.

nfl 2k5 will own madden this year, trust me, gameplay matters. (honestly i think it has owned madden since 2k came out). If you take the time to learn nfl 2k5 (put the speed on slow cause it is really fast) then you will find that just because it doesnt have madden or ea on it, doesnt mean it isnt the best football game of the year. im still going to rent madden and if it is better ill take back what i said, but if its anything like last years, then it doesnt stand a chance against the amazing nfl 2k5.

Madden wont have a chance against Espn. The ratings for NFL 2K5 has already been very good. And the price is so low. So both gameplay and price goes to nfl 2k5.

*cough* Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution *cough*

Besides, I favor Sega's sports titles over the competition. They seem more intuitive and easier to play for me...

Madden has always been the most realistic of football games, everything doesnt just fly by, everything is less cartoony, the momentum engine is cool (but needs some bugs worken out), everything just seems more official and there is alot more strategy involved to win. The NCAA series is an exception, thats good college football.

To win in madden you cant just throw down the field 30-60 yards each time the whole game (which is what you have to do in other football games the majority of the time to even think about winning). It really matters what plays you pick aside from the difference between picking a blitz or conservative play, the moves are better and actually work alot of the time (spins, jukes, stiffarms, etc)and players dont latch onto you from 10 yards away and tackle you.

People who play anything but madden are just looking for quick ignorant fun and dont really care about football or football games other than very fast unrealistic gameplay and the throw a bomb every other play and score in 20 seconds strategy. No depth at all, just pass pass pass, your tackled from 8 yards away with no chance to shake it off or not, evasive moves are useless, only thing that really matters is if you pick a blitz or conservative play, repeat.

I skimmed through all of the posts, and though I might be mistaken, I'm pretty sure NOBODY mentioned a key factor in all of this:

The reason WHY NFL 2K5 is so cheap. I've read in more than one site/mag how Sega had supposedly canned the 2K5 versions of their NFL, MLB, and NBA (and/or NHL, not sure) games so that they could make sure that the 2K6 versions would DEFINITELY be the best the market had to offer. So when did they change their minds about NFL 2K5, 'cause when a pal of mine told me he had ordered it, it was news to me.

Again, I may be mistaken, but the news of a (supposedly) cancelled game being released at a discount rate is suspiscious. HOWEVER, having said all that, I've always (since the series came out)preferred the 2K series over Madden, and the first 2 games on Dreamcast were the best football games I had ever played, besides Madden on 3DO, of course wink

you CANNOT do that in espn either. you will throw an interception or an incomplete. in nfl 2k5 you have to think fast, if a guy is open, throw it, if there isnt, RUN (or throw out of bounds). and throwing bombs is hard (your reciever better be freaken good, as should you ). espn has a high learning curve so to call it arcady is a mistake. yeah its faster than madden, but thats about it because there are just as many options in espn as there are in madden. so unless youve played a 2k game, you might as well not judge. i like both espn and madden for different reasons (they are both flawed in areas and they both excel in areas). but the price tag of espn made me get that and wait for madden for my birthday (burnout 3, mkd, DOA:U, and MAT 2 come before it)

I just finished playing 2K5 and I thought it SUCKED real bad

The features like VIP and crib mode are the only good parts of the game and not to mention the graphics. The actual football seems to play too slow and the animations are still pretty shitty. Also the commentary is horrible yet again with the 2 announcers I dont even know repeating the same lines every 4 or 5 plays.

The game has been improved a lot from last year though. The features like the halftime and pregame shows are a nice touch. But the onfield gameplay is where the game really sucks compared to Madden

The only reason you should get this game is because of the price. If this was 50 bucks then there was no way in hell I was gonna play/buy it. The gameplay still left something to be desired IMO

So this year Im sticking to Madden...even if it didnt add a lot of new stuff to it. Owner mode and franchise seem to be revamped a lot. The hit stick and defensive cover sets and audibles should also be intresting this year too, adding yet another dimension to the defensive side of the ball.

Madden is on top this year...like every year

good for you. ill admit the ball does move a little slow (i normally wouldnt notice it but its such a fast paced game), but strengths out weigh the weakness's. i get into this game more than i ever have gotten into madden (still getting madden though)
