Not sure how many of you follow hockey, but seeing as how there isn't a thread for this yet, I figured I create one.

For those of you who might not have heard yet, the Boston Bruins won the NHL Stanley Cup last night in a game 7 shutout.

Feel free to discuss anything related.

Being a Boston native, and Bruins fan, I'm ecstatic about them winning the Cup. I honestly can't believe it, nor thought I would live to see them win it again. Even though the series went to a game 7, I thought Boston was the better team all series long. The three games they lost where 1 goal games, and Boston out-shot, and out-scored Vancouver all series long 23-8.

The unfortunate side of this whole story though is the rioting that happened in Vancouver: Vancouver Riots after Stanley Cup loss.
Game didn't turn out as I expected. I knew it'd go to game 7 to play on people's emotions, but last night's game was pretty damn disappointing.

Sad to see my hometown burn for 4 hours. I was watching the riots on CTV all night. So many people not realizing they're on camera, unmasked or at least till they notice the cameras. I expect this after a soccer game, but WTF people?

Boychuk should've been suspended after Game 6. Total lack of consistency on the part of the NHL by suspending Rome and leaving Boychuk unpunished. Apart from that, this series was pretty damn boring, and I'm a guy who thinks any hockey is exciting.

sad. Rome's hit was very much intent to injureRome hit on Horton - Game 3.
Boychuk's hit on Mason Raymond was unintentional. Bychuck hit on Mason Raymond, Game 6 He was chasing the puck, Raymond got hung up the wrong way in the middle of Boychuk's check. No way he could have have stopped.

Vancouver even got away with a similar hit on Chara by Higgins in game 7Higgin's Hit on Chara - Game 7. I certainly hope the league looks into it, and doesn't let it go unpunished.

Unintentional? Don't make me laugh dude. The puck was long gone when Boychuk engaged Raymond (that's interference), he then stopped Raymond from returning to an upright position with his stick (hooking) and then he drove him into the boards (hit on a defenseless player). Put all of that together and you have a potential career ending injury that never should have happened. The sad thing is that Higgins will get suspended going into next season, and rightfully so, because that too was an unnecessary cheap shot... guarantee Boychuk still gets nothing though.

Rome's hit was less intent than the one Higgins made, because his hit was just a little late and he launched himself, but keep in mind that if Horton has his head up he doesn't get injured by that hit.

It looks to me like Raymond stumble chaceing down the puck with Boychuk, and as he tried to regain his balance he got caught up Boychuk's check. It doesn't look like an intentional bad hit at all. Boychuk was already committed to the check, there is no way he could have stopped. If anything it also looks like Boychuk at least tried to slow down just before Raymond hit the boards, because he knrew he got caught up the wrong way.

And yeah the Higgin's hit on Chara was bad. The guys is 6'9", it's going to take intention to get a head shot on him.
[edit]: Horton wasn't looking down but at the pass. He got complete broadsided.
[edit 2]: A little off topic of the Bruins, but ESPN is reporting that Jaromir Jagr might be returning to the NHL. Detroit is mentioned to be interested. I think it would be interesting to see him join the Bruin's. Considering Mark Recchi is retiring now, Jaromir Jagr might be a good fit..

Raymond tried to turn once the puck passed his skates, but he couldn't because he was being hooked already. Anything that happened on that play was caused by Boychuk, and how committed to the check he was is irrelevant, it was a completely unnecessary check to begin with because it had nothing to do with the play anymore. I give Boychuk credit for not going full blast into the boards there, but then again he slowed down because he was trying to play the puck at first, not because he knew Raymond would get hurt if he didn't.

The worst part about the Higgins play is that he had been playing so well in the playoffs, that to see him revert to the bum status he had while with the Rangers was infuriating. Oh well, suspension for him.

To Horton looking at the pass, I'm not going to blame him for his own injury, but the last thing you should be doing in the NHL is admiring your own passes, especially with the way the series had been played to that point. Keep that head on a swivel.

I don't think Jagr would be too successful at this point in his career in today's NHL. He's going to be 40 this coming season and he didn't exactly set the world on fire in the KHL, where he wasn't a point per game player. Supposedly he's expressed interest in playing for the Oilers, because they wanted to sign him before he went to Russia, but then who do you partner him with? All of their best players are right wingers, which is what Jagr is, so he really isn't a fit there at all.
