i do think that Pain is either a destroyer or a helper of the individual.
Pain, as destroyer, will always bad and weakens the person
Pain, as a helper, will bred Hope and Hope in and of itself will help the person to be stronger and live another day.
Pain, as drug habit as a destroyer, will destroy a person in the long time.
For example, Some one gets addicted to cutting him/erself daily and enjoys the feeling once they cut themselves and it will be an addicting habit.
Pain, as thru a personal trial as a helper, will make you stronger than you were before that trial.
For example, A death of a loved one is quite painful for the family and friend.
Pain, as thru a personal trial as a destroyer, will break your self-confidence and put you thru depression if not becoming suicidual behavior.
To me, without Pain and suffering, there cant be Joy and Hope.
I cant judge anyone because I never been in their shoes but I will try to hope.

The bitter only makes the sweet taste sweeter.
Honestly, pain is a necessary part of life, and I wouldn't trade all my scars and bad encounters for the world because they've made me the man I am today. At the same time, sometimes I do tend to display emotionally masochistic tendencies, but my own acknowledgement of my own pain helps me to understand the pain of others and help make them happy.
Or, as the Army says, "pain is weakness leaving the body."

Well said.
When I first saw this thread my first thoughts weren't about myself but my mother, and about what she recently went through with breast cancer. And I thought to myself, "Where's the lesson in that?" What did the people in Southeast Asia have to learn from last year's tsunami? I could name more examples but I think you see where I'm getting at. So then it occured to me that the lesson is that sometimes there is no lesson.
That's probably one of the hardest lessons for someone to learn. I think most people have a natural tendency to want to believe that there is order and purpose to the universe. I think it gives a certain sense of comfort. I'm not saying that they're wrong. Maybe the disorder is in fact part of the order. If there is some higher being that is conducting this experiment called life, maybe He/She/It threw in some variables to see how we'd react.
I'm getting off track. I'm also getting tired. But I think I've made my point.

comes to Hardship in life, in the bible in the book of Job.
Just because you are a good person, it doesnt mean you will NOT go thru hard times.
Life is unfair at times if not diffcult(MSP) for many people.
For Most Americans, we do have it lucky.
A lot of our poverty are better off than many of the people of the third world countries.
I will shut up before I make myself an idiot.
