Well, that will have more to do with your video card than any cables. For instance I have an ATI Radeo 8500 DV, which has a DV out for my monitor and an S-video out which lets my TV act as a second monitor.

Just be aware that most (i can't just say all) TVs that are not hi-def will only display up to 800x600 resolution. You can go higher, but text will be very difficult to read. Going any higher than 1024x768 will actually cut off the edges of the screen, and the image will pan when you move your mouse toward the sides.

And, I'm not so sure about any adapters, as you had asked about... but who knows what they've come up with?
