Physical media and Digital media
Anyone here besides me who prefer physical media? I'm not that big on downloading stuff personally. When you "buy" something digitally, you don't really own it, you're essentially just renting it for a much longer period of time than you would at a local Videotron. Your subscription can run out, or the network can be shut down or hacked. Whereas with a DVD player, my only worry is that the player or the DVDs may not work properly.
Will anything you downloaded on the previous gen consoles still be available once said consoles' network completely shuts down?
It's just a concern really. Both forms of media should be allowed to exist, imo. Best of both worlds. Of course business rarely ever work like that.
I'm hoping the popularity of physical media isn't due to a bunch of fatasses who were tired of walking or driving to the local movie store. Tell me I won't be stuck having to download movies just because of slobs.

I agree on this, but the reality of digital media though (when it comes to game and services), is that storage space, whether it be a hard drive or cloud storage or even storage capacity on network services hosting the content for download, are finite.
Older services that are no long profitable to companies, will shut down and move on. Like older game servers and network services like XBL for the first Xbox (it will happen eventually for the 360 as well).
I admit to not being completely knowledgeable when it comes to downloading anything online, though I obviously know enough to be concerned about what it could mean for physical media, still, I must ask: is it possible to download rather obscure movies, or can you only get the most mainstream movies and TV shows?
By obscure, I mean movies like Judgement Night (starring Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr and Denis Leary), and Lawnmower Man (starring Pierce Brosnan and Jeff Fahey). Okay, not necessarily obscure, but certainly not movies that are still talked about much these days, either. That's another one of my worries if we ever go completely digital, that some movies and TV series will become impossible to find.

It's really all a matter of how a movie studio views a particular movie or title and how profitable they think it can be if they release it in a new format.
I'm sure if literally the only option was digital format for everything, then we would see the majority of movie studios release what they have, but there would still be obscure titles that would be left out.
