Playstation Disc Cleaning Problem

I just bought SFA3 used from EB and it only gets the title screen and won't go any farther. After you pick a mode the screen goes black. My PSone tries reading it, but it stops periodically. I'm gonna try toe PS2 in a bit, but things don't look good for it. Scratches aren't the problem, something is on it, and I can't get it off, you can clearly see it apart from the disc. Anyone know what this is and how to get it off? Alcohol and disc cleaner haven't worked all that well. If you don't have a solution, what else should I do?

Hmmmmmm... if it's not scratches then it's really somewhat a mystery as to what else it could be. Perhaps the previous owner did something to it or maybe the disc got warped somehow, but even that's rare!
~sigh~

DAMN! I hope you didn't pay alot for it and Electronics Boutique has some kind of return or exchange policy cause I'm kanda thinkin' you're s.o.l. on this one.
If there's no scratches and your PSOne is working fine... then it has to be something with the disc that really can't be resolved. I've heard of problems with game cd's, but this one is alien to me. Is there some kind of substance directly on the write side or can you notice in within the cd when you look at it holding it up a in front of a light?

Try dropping your disc in real hot water for a few minutes.Or you can always try boiling it for a few seconds.

I'm sorry to say but your disc is screwed, if alchohol didn't remove it then nothing else will, well nothing that will save the disc, take it back and get a replacement or refund.
Also, try not buying used games from EB, they're a piece of shit store as far as trading games goes. They give you like, five dollars for a perfect condition game even if it's like, 2 days old. And they always get rid of the shitty condition games first. My friend works there and he told me thats how they do it. P.S. Nice Metallica quote Terranova.

Yeah, this is the odd things about EB. When I bought Mega Man X6 not too long ago, it was supposed to be used, but when I got to the counter it, they gave me a brand new factory sealed one. Capcom's home site is still selling it for $30 brand new, and I only paid $20.
On the other hand, when I returned two copies of WWF Smackdown 3: Just Bring It, with that game card, I still only got $2 back. That's right, only a dollar for each of those PS2 games.
And about the SFA3. Both stores (EB and Gamestop) had the game new and factory sealed still every time I've been there. Yesterday neither one had it. And whatever it is, it's gotta be able to come off. One of my friends said he may be going back to work for EB soon, so maybe he can get me a good disc if I wait.
