AHHHHH! I hope my PS2 did not just die. It played fine last night, but I just put in Champions of Norrath, Mortal Kombat:Deception, AND Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance and all said disc read error. My PS2 hasn't been able to play PS1 games or bluebottomed discs for a while, but this is ridiculous, not working at all? Any one know what to do or been in a similar situation?

Is there a specific one for PS2 that I should buy?

You sure it's alright to use on PS2?

It appears that your PS2 lens has either been very dusty or that it has lived its life to over, I think that you are using a modified PS2 so you may take it to any service shop, open it up and see which of the above two things have occured, as far as it is concerned that your PS2 itself has died... no my friend its hardly an issue.

I personally would not recommend taking your PS2 to an outside shop. I had this problem back around the time Xenosaga came out. I called Sony and they will have you run a few tests on your PS2. After completing them you may have to mail your PS2 to them, as I did. The process took if i remember about 10-12 days but I have not have any problems with my PS2 since and if i rememer you get warranty info for the pieces repaired. I purchased my PS2 new when they 1st came to the states so I know I am well out of the warranty period but when I shipped mine off all I paid for was the shipping to get it there, the fees, and the return charges where taken care of by sony. How it helps out good luck.

if it has been modified then by all means take it apart your self and clean the lens, if not you can get a laser cd cleaner, and i've also heard that you can open the tray and angle the nozzle of a can of compressed air in there and blow alot of dust out....this would be your cheapest option
then if the laser cleaner doesnt work or the air doesnt work buy a new laser.
final note, if it hasnt been modified (ie warranty sticker still intact) and its a version 3 or older then call sony and tell them you keep get DREs and more than likely you can get it fixed for just paying shipping to them as shai said
Good Luck

Call customer service, and they'll repair it for free. All you gotta do is send it to them. They put a bunch of new parts in mine, it's pretty cool. BTW, what's with everyone having the Raiden silouhette icon?
