For this thread you people can discuss the ps2's online capabilities... but I just have one question. You can PM the answer if you'd like... how exactly do you connect to the net with the ps2, I believe you need the network adapter and such but, as far as the provider goes, can you just use the same as your computer or what? Explain that whole internet process in great detail for me, please and thank you.

sure. You need a network adapter.

However, the network adapter comes with a disk. Put the disk inside the playstation 2.

Next, use a broadband cord to plug into youre cable modem, or you may use a regular phone line, though that is not advisable.

Follow all the instructions on the CD. If it sais not registered or something, disconnect the cable for 30 seconds, then put it back in. That should do it.

Okay now, go off and work for NASA, youre qualifyed to be a space engeneer :)

What if u have dialup? i think u still can use disl up with network modem since it has a phone jack on it.

Also, some games that can be played online is mostly for broadband users only. sometimes its for dialup and broadband.

I'm presently using dial-up for FFXI on PS2 and haven't had any problems. (I know, I'm behind the times.) All you do is plug you phone line into the PS2 modem (This is in the US, I don't know if its different outside of the country.) and then put in the disk and follow the instructions.

Its true. You can always use dialup freely as you wish. Thats the good thing about the PS2, the accessories are endless.

When does sony plan to release the Hard Drive individually, I know it's $100 with the FF bundle so it should be around $50.

Most likely not until there are other games that require it. So far, FFXI is the only game requires the HDD.

before you hook up your network adapter make sure your ps2 and modem are unplugged. connect the network adapter to the modem, then plug in the modem and ps2.

Dunno if the North American release of Capcom vs SNK2 for PS2 uses it, but the Japanese version did.
It loads stuff onto the HDD to speed up or eliminate loading times. smile

Last I heard mention of buying an individual HD (not with FFXI or PS2 Linux), it was said it would happen when they release the PSX, if they are still releasing that. Its been a while since I read about this stuff.
yeah... I bought the HDD and Network Adapter today... I have no online games at this time and I'm not planning on paying to play a damn FF game, I don't like the series like the rest of the world does. Not wasting $13 a month to play it... I'm in debt to my father for the Adapter... I have 70 cents when this morning I had $100... but yeah, anyway, what might some good online games that are out be?
