Ps3 downloaded an update for kz3?!

So we all know the psn is down and we can't login.. One of my friends came over and wanted to play Killzone 3 sp, so I started it up and the game wanted to download an update while I wasn't even signed into psn.. Ok WTF. It even let me download the update.. Please tell me how I was able to download this.

You can download updates because the console is still hooked up to the internet, you just can't access the PSN which is a different thing in itself.

Ok gotcha. But what servers are hosting these updates?
