IESB reports that The Sci-Fi Channel is currently developing a new "Quantum Leap" TV series which will introduce fans to a new female lead "Leaper" and will not involve original early 90's series star Scott Bakula. Word is that Sci-Fi will try to re-imagine the entire series just like they did with "Battlestar Galactica" but indications are that the project is quickly running out of energy.

If the project does not pick up speed in the very near future, both Don Bellisario and Scott Bakula apparently intend to bring "Quantum Leap" to the big screen and will try to address all the questions that were left unanswered during the last season. Thus if the TV project does not get off the ground within the next few months, "Quantum Leap: The Movie" could be a reality around 2006.

The original show starred Bakula as scientist Sam Beckett, who in experimenting with time travel, loses himself in a perpetual warp that catapults him into the bodies and lives of random people throughout time. While he temporarily inhabits a person's body, Sam also must solve a problem or mystery in that person's life (the solving of which triggers another jump). Continually trying to find a way to his home time, Sam has the help of Rear Admiral Albert "Al" Calavicci (Dean Stockwell), who appears, only to Sam, in hologram form, and the supercomputer Ziggy, which provides clues for solving each episode's mystery.

Thanks to 'Robert'
Why you may also wonder about the 2006 release date is probably releasing it around the same time the release the last season on dvd.

Yeah! I loved the series, but a movie wouldn't garnner the audience that the studio would favor. They probably could have done it a season or two after it ended, but not now I'm afraid.

My 5th grade teacher told me that judging by the kind of person i am, I should watch this show. i never did, and I've always hated when teachers tried to judge my personality. This show is wierd, what was he trying to say, "I'm a freak!" ??

nah. It was really quite an interesting plot. It was semi-cheesy, but I think what he meant was you are a 'fantasy, problem solver, intellectual type'.

But if you were, you woulda knew what he meant without anyone having to tell you.. grin

Yes important questions like "Who watches this?" "And why is he obsessed to be a woman?" "And why after having yet another chance to come back home would he talk to god in a cafe?"
"Why does God need to run a cafe if he can make a guy body snatch to right wrongs?" "How will he solve anything without Ziggy and Al?" "What happened to Ziggy? Is the computer a male, female, or what?!" "I mean they can't even decide on gender between episodes!" "Who would run a computer as unstable as that?" "Who actually likes Scott Backula?"

These and other questions soon.

Addendum: krsx66; that was the last episode of the series.
